    Herb Boilies

Poor blokes first post too😏 Welcome Jeremy anyway...I can't really help except that I have heard they do work certainly on the Thames with an angler on here. Barbel have a catholic taste and for me I haven't found anything better than luncheon meat and pellet.

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

The lack of spawning activity the last few years is a worry...these larger females I believe are not breeding and just seem to accept their fate. Given barbel spawn in the open season can anyone recall a female with spawn capture?

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

The difference is not that apparent Andrew, apart from the size of the anal fin, the male is shorter than female the latter covering the vent.

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

Many of these females get caught many times and can skew the impression of stock numbers. The same female at 12lb came out on the lwr Avon virtually 3 or 4 times a week I had her at least four times, I find no joy in that and compared to what was when on one short session I had 5 barbel with...

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

And that's the problem we need many more males than females to have a sustainable barbel population.

Loss of fish haunting - redemption

Fish handling is just common sense really. I unhook in the net and rarely remove fish onto a mat. The mat imo is just a reason to prolong the out of water time..some might believe it is a must to lay the fish on a mat, I don't all the necessary faffing around can be done in the net and better if...

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

Got quite a few Drennan rods, and apart from them being great rods I live the general look of them, they shout 'take me fishing'.

    Huge tackle auction

Yep the hammer prices were 20 or 30 pounds regardless of items. I don't deal much but I sold a few old cane rods for 100 plus £s .I have only bought one rod at an auction in Cirencester. It was a glass float trotter with a spliced tip. It commemorated the marriage of Charles and Diana c/w with...

    Photos of river scenes

What a beautiful set of pictures. If you have the "feel' in being immersed in nature as we anglers are then it can be seen that others cannot. How many see Otters in the wild, Kingfisher and the like? The picture of the Kingfisher is a male offering a meal to a female a pre curser to mating. BBC...

    The River Arrow.

I am afraid Barbel in the Arrow are a rarity now. I championed the Arrow on here when it did have Barbel, but Otter put paid to that. However it is a delightful river and well worth a visit or two, Chub are plentiful and even when other Rivers are in flood the Arrow will often oblige. Beware the...
