You’ve misread my post Ian I said like a stick float with bulbous body and higher domed top exactly like number 5 in your line up.
That’s the only one I’d consider an Avon
I’d actually say an Avon float becomes a bolo the moment you replace the stick for a stem.
Avon floats are essentially stick floats with bulbous bodies and higher domed tops where as bolo floats are all stemmed either in carbon wire or fibre glass.
That’s how i would determine the difference...
It’s important I Just make people wanting some of these aware,
It needs to be said to avoid any expectation confusion.
these are hand made floats and the bodies are modified by me by hand and eye to suit the way I want the floats.
They are made at speed so they can be priced to sell and...
Made little bit of an error here with the setting weight of the biggest float. It’s not 8g it’s actually 10g
Personally I think that’s better as it’s a size I use frequently on the big rivers like the Trent
The 6g is spot on at 6g
I’m also going to offer one more size down which I’m hoping...
Must admit it’s rare I ever get tangles with any stemmed float. I mostly use a centrepin with them and always feather or slow the rig down prior to it hitting the water so that it’s hitting the river in a straight line.
If you order some and don’t get on with them I’m happy to have them back...
All manner of depths and flow speeds I’m hoping Wayne.
I have shortened the stems on a lot of floats over the years where the intended use is to run through fast shallow water. I think some are just too long anyway and need a bit chopped off to be better more useable floats.
There’s...
Not particularly Alec. The finish I’m getting is a lot harder than the uncoated wood and I can apply it at speed keeping costs to a minimum.
Interchangeable tips I’m not doing. It’s a great idea but that’s Andy’s bag and I’m leaving it well alone.
Unless something dramatic happens like they...
It’s possible yes but I’m not going to offer it for 2 reasons.
1 it’s something Andrew Burt does with his floats and I’m going to leave that well alone for to him to offer .
2 the interchangeable tips are a fair bit smaller than i personally want to offer on these at 3 and 4.5mm.
I’ll do some further testing with them this week and just make sure I’m 100% happy with their performance and durability then I’ll offer them out.
I need to work out the costs but based on rough numbers and typical market prices they are going to be around £2.30 each ish.
Starting from left...
I can tell you all that David no problem.
Stem length can be whatever you want
6g and 8g are what I’m sticking with at the moment regarding weight to set the float and tip colours are red and yellow as shown.
I’ve wanted for ages to make some floats. As 80% of my fishing is done with trotting floats on rivers, Ive used a lot of different floats and it’s nice to eventually put some together like I want them.
Theres not really a long list of things that I look for in a float for long trotting, just...
The lad is a terrific angler. He followed that fish with a further 4 chub a bream and capped the day off with a cracking little pike on a dead skimmer.
It’s not an Easy section to trot proficiently by a long way.
because it’s all from the bank and the features are all far bank.
The fastest...
What’s long term storage Chris?
I’ve got rods in bags I haven’t even looked at for several years. I don’t know for sure, but I’d expect to take them out and find them as I left them.
Anyway it’s clear you don’t like tie up bags and I like them a lot.
Shall we move on now 👍🏻
