The stretches I fish are hardly heavily pressured. However even though I tend to fish for 24 to 36hrs at a time (a day and a night or two days and a night), most of my captures come at night or twilight. Maybe this is just because of the way I fish, maybe because the fish feel safer.
When I...
You're not wrong. Fished it a few years back and had a multiple catch of 2lb plus fish and know of others that have had the same. My friend's pb of over 3lb came from a bit of river that joins up too.
The one I had the other day was a pristine beauty with a double split stripe.
Cheers

Wow that's a cracker rich, I'd love to break the 3lb barrier.
I did post about a trip I made a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately my iPhone crashed before it had finished uploading. On that occasion I fished the enborne in Berkshire.
The day was murky with strong gales blowing. My banker swim...
While mine does have the issues mentioned, it is fine for now and as others have said a bargain at the price. At some point I may replace the bearings but only with some advice from here first.
Just got mine today.
Mine's the same as Dick's. It runs for a long time but vibrates a little with a very slight wobble. I took the reel apart to see if I could sort it out but nothing obvious stood out. My guess would also be that some better quality bearings might do the business.
Thanks Chris
Yes this was the thread I had read. As it wandered a bit I thought I'd try and narrow it down a bit. Your posts are quite specific, on your advice I'd probably plump for the Avon. However some of the other posts would indicate that the specialist might be OK.
I rarely float...
Hi all
I have read some views on these rods on an old thread but thought I'd ask for some more to help aid me in my quest for a new rod.
The main purpose of the rod would be quiver tipping or float fishing for perch on rivers and canals. It would be good if the rod had enough backbone for...
I bought a pair of Baffin boots in October. They are a higher topped version of the outback and I was lucky enough to get them from the American amazon for £75 inc delivery. The outback now available looks a bit different. Anyway, I have only used them for fishing once and it was mild compared...
Thanks for the advice Shaun. I have a jig rod which serves pretty well as a light to medium spinning rod but wasn't sure if the length might be a problem. I do also have an old barbel rod which could be pressed into service if that proved to be the better option.

I used to touch leger alot. As many have said on here, even if it makes no difference to what you catch, it adds to the excitement of getting a bite tenfold. As has also been said, it allows you to watch the the river/wildlife etc without missing bites which you might otherwise do so.
I don't...
Nowhere near as much as I'd like! Family, work, distance from the river and lack of a driving license all conspire against me. Would love to get out at least once a week but so far this season I've managed 5 trips with another planned for tomorrow and a few more days in half term week. Beyond...
Just ordered a pair of the Baffin Mountain boots from amazon.com. They're basically a higher top version of the Outback. They were on sale and with delivery and import duty were £77.56, still a bit of a lump but pretty much half the price than anywhere over here.
Anyone care to give some advice on course spinning tackle that's up to the job, line type/weights etc. I've been thinking of giving it a go for a while now but never got around to it so any advice would be welcome.
Cheers

Are the Baffins really that good? I see there's a 10 out of 10 review on here. I'm looking to replace my mouse chewed Nash Zero Tolerances and was going to go with the Northface ones suggested on another thread. However I like the inner boot system so the Baffins look ideal. Found I can get the...
I can still remember my first. In fact the details are much clearer than with many of my subsequent captures although the weight escapes me, something around 5lbs I think.
It was from the bridge swim at the top end of lower benyons on the kennet. The river was up and well coloured and I was...
I mostly fish 24hr sessions as this is pretty much the only way I can get any fishing in. While I have had fish at all hours of the night most have tended to come between first dark and 2am during the summer months. My sessions tend to tail off as the weather gets colder so not sure how this...
Prior to purchasing my current fox net I had the previous model for three seasons. No problems with it at all until the mice ate through the mesh during my lay off. The only difference I can see is that the mesh now appears a bit finer which is a pain and the latex coating.
Cheers

Not bad thanks Dave
Managed only my second ever double off the Dalston earlier this season, although still not getting out as often as I'd like.
Anyway back to the net. I'd have thought a guy with your readies would be able to afford a quality bit of kit such as the Insight Wanderer...
