I have recently been looking at replacement Rods and Tony Kay was one that came up in conversation for a recommendation..

Bob gill / mark Tunley / Ian tucker. Had rods built from 3 of these blokes and absolutely spot on my little 10ft stalker from Bob was a work of art and i must say the isoblobs he used to put on rods were quite something special the best I’ve ever seen hats off to MR Bob gill you made some amazing rods my friend

To be fair Derek, the OP was asking for recommendations - not who to avoid.

I’ve had a couple of rods built that I wasn’t completely 100% happy with (different builders), but I know others who have been completely happy with their work and I wouldn’t want to post negative comments on a public forum that could impact on an individuals livelihood. They are after all one-man band outfits, not big tackle companies. Best to just vote with ones feet imo.

Quite right! Bad form to do that. Anyone not happy with their rods only has to go back to the builder explaining why and getting it put right.
