Quite right! Bad form to do that. Anyone not happy with their rods only has to go back to the builder explaining why and getting it put right. To be fair Derek, the OP was asking for recommendations - not who to avoid.
I’ve had a couple of rods built that I wasn’t completely 100% happy with (different builders), but I know others who have been completely happy with their work and I wouldn’t want to post negative comments on a public forum that could impact on an individuals livelihood. They are after all one-man band outfits, not big tackle companies. Best to just vote with ones feet imo.
Cheers,

Funny the same names keep popping up I’ve got rods built by mark tunley , Dave lumb and Bob the rod from fosters each one executed perfectly
But do you think certain builders are better at certain styles of rods
so I went with Dave as he is renowned for pike rods he built my p1 rods
Bob the rod was recommended by ste Harrison to build my float rod
Mark Tunley is for me more river rods he has built my avons
And I’m considering getting new carp rods this year and Kev Clayton is leading the way on front up to now as he mainly builds carp rods and having learned his trade at Harrison’s it makes sense to me to let him loose on some new aviators
