Rod set ups

Neil Gallimore

Do people on here use identical rod and reels if fishing 2 set ups as I'm tempted to use different rod and reels so I get a feel for what I like being a newbie also what reels would people recommend for a 1.75lb test curve

Very odd I am fishing with 2 rods, but when I do, this is my setup.

I like the rods and reels to be identical for no other reason than they feel the same act the same and have the same limitations same clutch speeds same baitrunner settings.

Nothing whatsoever about image for me it’s about consistency and knowing my gear. 2 different set ups fished together could feel confusing particularly if they behaved very differently.

Morning Neil, there are so many variables, it depends on what sort of river you are fishing. Its size, its power, its stocks, Summer or Winter, heavy Floods, Tidal, fishing pressure etc. If you can tell us what river you are fishing I think we can give you more accurate answers that will suit the type of areas you will be doing.

I am tempted to believe it's ALL about image. 😏
No not at all, for me it’s how the identical set ups cast with the same accuracy and play the fish with the same force / resistance if the rods and reels were the same in construction / materials etc but painted in totally different colours I wouldn’t mind at all! I’m not a carp angler! Mate 😉🤣👍🏻

Though that just maybe 🤔 down to my inadequacy and lack of skills? But I would say not! 😉🤣

I try and avoid having matching rods when Barbel fishing when using ( often I dont). It's my personal little protest about what's happened to Carp fishing and specialist angling in general. To me it makes no difference having different set ups. I will, for example, fish a fixed spool on one and a centrepin on the other or maybe even two pins, one with the line off the top, one off the bottom. I have no trouble adapting.

Go whole hog and put your jacket and trousers on backwards ...and you might start a new fashion in 'carp world' 🤣:p🤣
Ultra cult!
