Freespirit Tamer Power Float 15'

On 2nd glance it is a 3x piece - can see the small ring half way up the handle lol . . .knew I should'nt have mentioned it - its gone now anyway!

There is a 15ft version according to this
Or am I looking at the wrong one
15ft power float
I’ve had a waggle now with both the 14 and 15 foot and I think there’s a cock up with the ratings on the 15ft rod.
For 1 it doesn’t feel as stiff as the 14.

Even though It’s actually written on the 15ft blank too 8lb max line but the literature from Preston suggests 6lb max. Someone has messed up there because to me the 15 foot rod feels like a 5-6lb line rod and the 14ft rod definitely feels like a 6-8lb line rod

Be interested in your review if you get out to use the rod I maybe interested in a barbel float rod soon

I had a waggle with the 15' Preston today in my local (as well as the Daiwa Conny etc) but they didn't have an Acolyte Speccy to test against unfortunately or the Preston in 14'. Whilst the 15' Preston was 'lightish' I think Rich is right and that the AD ad is incorrect; there's also no 15' Power on the Preston site - the 15' is a standard Supera X with a 3-6lb line rating. Guy in shop also thought it wasn't a power model and it did indeed feel more similar to an Accy Plus in terms of action.

Was impressed with the grunt of the Conny but it was too heavy /felt unbalanced for my needs - also waggled a 17' Hi-S which was lighter but arguably a little OTT in all departments - it also has a silly v short handle. . . .need to waggle the 15' Accy Specimen which they were offering at £230 on order which sounded like a reasonable price?

second time out with my 14' acolyte specimen yesterday, was rigging it up and I grabbed the top section near the joint with the middle section to push the rod back and lifting slightly, the top section snapped clean in two in my hand like snapping a twiglet, not impressed !!!

Not good..It might of had a fault in that section.

If i'm picturing your description correctly, that sounds like a very dodgy manouvre Cliff.
Too much pressure on a short section of the rod and the pressure is applied in the wrong way.

I agree with Ian; not sure any rod is designed to be lifted from the top section in that way, especially once a reel is attached.
.

As soon as you create a fulcrum, with your opposing hand, your asking for trouble, even without a reel attached.
Accolytes should come with an insurance option!

I would agree it was a bit clumsy but Ive done similar with many rods over the years ... but I guess I won't again 😓
The blank is very strong when allowed to bend correctly but the walls on an acolyte are so thin, you can’t get away with short cuts with them like you probably could with thicker walled rods. I don’t think they are bad rods at all just less tolerant to improper handling. I wouldn’t be surprised if spheres are very much the same. They are incredibly strong blanks with super thin walls.

Wow.

yes I should have been more careful but as said before Ive done this so many times before with other float rods and never had a problem. I was quite shocked to see how thin the walls were when looking at the break, amazing they can be so strong when playing a fish.

Did u tap it against something Cliff? I know one rod expert told me rods are
designed to bend every way except backwards. By that he meant along the spine ie the tip pointing back towards the handle. That can happen if tip touches an object but the rod is pushed forwards so effectlvely the tip is upside down, if I make sense.

The spine is very unlikely to be the cause simply due to the fact that many mass produced rods are built without even a thought as to where it is on a blank. A lot of rods bends with it and against it depending on where the rings are placed.

I think it’s just a case that he’s come across a blank less tolerant to something that he’s done many times over with thicker walled more tolerant blanks.
Hopefully a tip section won’t be too much money to replace.
Look on the plus side cliff. At least the rod is still current and supported. Imagine if that was a 15 year old daiwa or worse …. 30 year old normark
