New eyes or new rods

Hi everyone first post for flood water conditions I've been using some korum big water rods 12ft 2.5tc for about 2 years and I've noticed burrs on most the eyes on both rods is it worth getting the eyes replaced or should I just get some different rods and if so what rods do people suggest? Peregrines and the like are a bit too expensive for me to abuse so something mid range 😂 cheers

Hopefully they will be right mate 👌 I've used mine alot though to be fair and done plenty of fishing with 8oz leads. Line used is 15lb maxima. If anything it's brought me even more faith than I already have in the line 😂 here's a picture of one of them not the best but can see what's happened

If you like the rods enough and the only issue you have with them is the rings, then replacing the guides might not be a bad idea. However, only you can make that call. It might be a good idea to get some quotes for the job before you decide whether it may be worth it.
 
I was a huge korum fan boy up till last year but I don't touch their stuff now.

I'm quite the hypocrite too as I really dislike AD but I found their Advanta brand of rods on par or even slightly better and I believe they do a heavy twin tip barbel rod with 2.25/2.75 tips. Might be worth checking out on a budget.

Some stuff is alright but I've had a few things go now. Mainly nets 😂 drennan for them now glad they brought back the folding triangle ones 👌 I'll have a look at them mate, how do they handle heavy leads? Ill be Using them on the trent mainly smeatons and pits so might need to have good chuck with something heavy
 
I've never used the heavy barbels rods, I only fish the W.Avon and even a 1.75 feels overkill on there sometimes. But I've had their 1.25 and 1.75 rods before and I thought they were ok, matched the korum rods for quality, blanks were slimmer and they didn't feel as tip heavy. I tested the 1.25 by seeing if it would cast a 2oz lead and it did just fine. The 1.75 I used for a very short amount of time and again it seemed a nice rod for the money. There's always discounts now and then on this range of Advanta rods too.
 
These would have to be quite special rods to be worth a complete re guide. Your going to be looking at £15 a guide minimum to have them replaced which at say 8 plus tip is probably more than twice what they cost to buy in the first place.

It’s your call at the end of the day. Korum rods are perfectly adequate but imo certainly not worth throwing £130 plus each at.
 
Shimano 13ft purist wont break the bank , my korum big river rod snapped the end off a while back , whilst the much older 13ft korum barbel rod still going strong after a few years of tidal trent abuse and the single leg rings ate still not knackered.

Hi Lewis.

Could you get some very fine wet & dry sand paper to just smooth them off?

Failing that & your wanting a new mid range set of rods, just keep an eye out on here, as there's usually an opportunity to get a bargain on here & the lads are a decent bunch. 👍

No point spending more than the rods are worth on getting them re-rung - unless you think you can do it yourself.

Daiwa Powermesh specialists get good reviews in the mid-range price bracket.

Worth a look as you are effectively buying 2 rods, a 1.75lb tip for general fishing normal conditions on medium to bigger rivers, plus a 2.25lb tip which is capable of fishing with big leads (unless you have to cast a long way). We use ours on the Ribble and I have fished 6oz leads in flood conditions, albeit only with a short lob.
Unless you fish the Trent i suspect these rods would cover all your needs in all water levels.

If you like them then replace them - not very eco friendly I admit but going to be way cheaper than re-ringing. I sourced a third (spare) brand new 13' Big Water 2.75 for £39.99 posted the other week just incase my Trent brick lobbing activities take a turn for the worse . . .
 
Hi men

Over the years I've rebuilt 6 carp rods and 1 spod rod . The rings and epoxy available give great finishes now , and a quick YouTube search would help if you never attempted it before . Something nice using a rod you have done yourself . If not prices of rods new can be ridiculously cheap 👍

It all depends on how much you like the rods really. If they suit what you do and you like them enough then yes getting them re-whipped is worth considering but ask for a quote first. I don't know those rods but you might be able to get something that suits you just as well for less than the re- whips would cost. I learned years ago how to re- whip a ring ( I'm from an age when people did such things as there were no cheap, good blanks back then). I still have some of my early carbon rods and they have been re-whipped many times. If you buy a good rod it will cost more but should give you many years of enjoyment. The factory built Harrison's aren't as expensive as a custom built rod though of course they are still more expensive than a Korum rod or similar. End of the day only you can decide on that one.
