No Neil, Nigel is going to decide what to do after it has closed.
That's pretty scary to think such an icon of Angling could be lost, hopefully it can be saved. I have been pondering just how poorly angling is represented in retail other than online.
America has outlets such as Bass Pro, Walmart and probably much more, not the cosy tackle shops that we all love but they do offer choice and value.
I get frustrated with all these new out of town retail villages that offer little other than a bland experience imo, well not for most husbands I would think, what we need is a one stop all day experience where you can buy anything from paper clip to a fishing whip and treat yourself to fast food and a movie.
We do have costco, but never been in one, nearest to me is Brum, but you can bet that fishing gear would be represented with cheap tack.
Ever since I can remember quality fishing or just reasonable gear is not found in major stores, all the way back to Woolies.
Companies like Sports Direct dabbled, and failed with utter dross, great if you want pink rods and a all in one fishermans friend tool that you can gut your catch bankside.
Of course these stores have a closed mind to the biggest hobby /sport in the World, and I guess the buyers are not the types to understand the potential.
Angling Direct are hanging in there; just, and Go Outdoors are surprisingly good, but miss out by some poor budget end gear. But if you want climbing gear top end products are sold, again I suspect buyers are naive. And forget staff having any product knowledge...as said very odd considering the popularity of fishing.
Meant to be a short reply, but ramble on eh?
