Another tackle shop going

Does anyone know what the arrangements will be for getting Royalty day tickets when Davis Tackle closes?
I had a meeting with the water company today, they aren't sure what they are going to do but will be coming back to the club by the end of February. I have already posted on the club forum regarding this and that is where I will post any updates. I am sure a way forward will be in place for RDAA members and day ticket anglers before the start of next season.

I find the closing of this shop more jarring than most others although any angling shop closing is not good. Davis and the Royalty are as iconic as each other that it would be as absurd if the fishery announced it's closure. Not a frequent visitor to the area but some of my earliest childhood angling memories are of this shop and the Royalty.

I bet it is nowhere near as popular nowadays as one might think.

The fishery sorry.

Fishery will carry on Stuart, South West Lakes trust are the subsiduary of South West water and provide leisure pursuits and good publicity for them.

A lot of us have moved down Dave, still a great place to live (except the traffic!).
Same here. I moved down coming up to 5 years now. Although the fishing is not what it once was, and i think that is one of the main problems Nigel has with lack of anglers fishing the Royalty. But it is the most iconic stretch of river in the country with many famous and non famous anglers fishing it. So i take my hat of to Nigel and Helen for the time they have spent to us and RDAA.

Thanks Phil for putting that video up
Really appreciated. Such a great shame that it's going but perfectly understandable
Best wishes to Nigel
Mike

It's a shame. Two shops in Oxford have closed recently. I've been told. Browns in Leighton Buzzard closed at the end of the year too. Made me think. When you just need something for tomorrow eg maggots or worms. Where do you go?
Lucky my local is still open. Otherwise it's a 40 mile round trip to Milton Keynes.

No Neil, Nigel is going to decide what to do after it has closed.
That's pretty scary to think such an icon of Angling could be lost, hopefully it can be saved. I have been pondering just how poorly angling is represented in retail other than online.
America has outlets such as Bass Pro, Walmart and probably much more, not the cosy tackle shops that we all love but they do offer choice and value.
I get frustrated with all these new out of town retail villages that offer little other than a bland experience imo, well not for most husbands I would think, what we need is a one stop all day experience where you can buy anything from paper clip to a fishing whip and treat yourself to fast food and a movie.
We do have costco, but never been in one, nearest to me is Brum, but you can bet that fishing gear would be represented with cheap tack.
Ever since I can remember quality fishing or just reasonable gear is not found in major stores, all the way back to Woolies.
Companies like Sports Direct dabbled, and failed with utter dross, great if you want pink rods and a all in one fishermans friend tool that you can gut your catch bankside.
Of course these stores have a closed mind to the biggest hobby /sport in the World, and I guess the buyers are not the types to understand the potential.
Angling Direct are hanging in there; just, and Go Outdoors are surprisingly good, but miss out by some poor budget end gear. But if you want climbing gear top end products are sold, again I suspect buyers are naive. And forget staff having any product knowledge...as said very odd considering the popularity of fishing.
Meant to be a short reply, but ramble on eh?😑

Angling Direct hanging in there? Really? Just like the powerful supermarkets Angling Direct is choosing to undercut everyone else - commonly known as the race to the bottom!

Married in Bournemouth and we moved around the area including Southampton, lived near iconic fishing and yet so engaged to the work ethic sadly never had time to fish apart from an occasional dabble. I shudder when I think of the missed opportunities mainly Royalty and Itchen.
