Winter is coming

With winter approaching and the lovely weather than comes with it.

What waterproof jackets and trousers are everyone wearing down the rivers?

Totally agree with Nigel. I have the Vaas winter bib and brace 175 and matching jacket.
Excellent items and Muckboot Arctic Sport wellies

Haglofs Roc Spirit Jacket and Rab Latok Bib Trousers, both in Goretex Pro.
Have stood out for hours in torrential rain and remained bone dry. Jacket is getting on now - perhaps 10-12yrs old.

Clothing is much of a likeness really, most brands offer quality wear.
Boots however are a different kettle.
Many top fishing brands still sell awful boots!.
My choice is Sorel.
If there good enough for the Canadians!

Just got the avid carp thermal suit. Obviously not had sub temps to warrant it but some cold starts, thought it would be a good idea to wear it. Well. Too warm really, especially when a good walk to the swim.
Positives.
20,000 hh.
Loads of pockets, some waterproof sealed.
Only negative I had was the water seems to be absorbed rather than beading off. Had a session where I sat out in the rain. All day. I remained dry but the suit got quite heavy.

I cannot remember where I read it but the Aldi is a carbon copy of a “ branded “ bibn brace / jacket set costing something like four times as much .Probably made in the same factory but with different labels .

I have used an Aldi set for the past 4 years and it is waterproof , warm and still as good as the day I bought it .
When I bought it I suspected that for the price it would probably fall apart after a years use so I bought a second pair of the same bibnbrace trousers at the same time for that eventuality.
They are still in the wrapping, never opened.

Like wise Aldi . Wore out my 1st jacket after 10 yrs , kept me warm and dry throughout . Bought the same on offer for a fiver , sorted .

Having worked my way through my fair share of good, indifferent and terrible jackets over the years I am now the owner of and ESP 25K quilted jacket. Two winters in, it is proving to be a very good purchase. Warm and crucially, keeps the water out.

I think we’ve all done the rounds of good, bad, indifferent when it comes to cold weather clothing. My worst purchase was the Trakker clothing bundle that was being sold pretty much everywhere in the early noughties. First time out, in heavy rain, in a boat in France, absolutely soaked through. Worst buy ever.

My current clothing jib is a Brandit M16 jacket for its warmth, with a US Army Goretex All Weather System jacket and Berghaus Deluge pants for keeping dry. Works for me.

I have always been an advocate of British forces lightweight goretex jackets and trousers, always been absolutely fantastic for the money. A minus was no hood on some jackets... last month I was given at a bargain price some of the new Trakker TechnPro waterproof jackets and trousers. I fished a week last Monday on a very wet day on the Trent and they were superb.... just like my military goretex. The sizing isn't great, I opted for an xxl, in the trousers, I'm only a 36 waist. I do like a bit of room to get my winter base layers etc underneath. However for the really cold days, I will have to revert to my military goretex, to get my snugpak jacket and salopettes underneath. On reflection I will use my Trakker gear for summer and autumn, my military goretex for the winter... if your going for the Trakker, try before you buy, to get the right sizes... its really good too.

I like the vass 175 stuff. Had the full winter suit for 3 years now
The impressive thing about it is the weight. My experience with padded winter clothing is that it’s heavy and a lot of it gets heavier when wet.
The vas stuff is incredibly lightweight and water just sits on top of it keeping it light.
Only Down side is they didn’t put a zip on the bib n brace so a call of nature is dealt with by dropping them down.
