Korum waist trotting tray, Is this a good or dumb idea?

This is the kind of waist pouch that I have used for years, but my one is green, this one may be a bargain for someone....

This is the drennan specialist type which I got a few weeks back, but haven't used yet.....

I’ve been thinking for a while now and after watching several Korum product release bundles that they are designing stuff, which just has no real and logical application purpose.

The folding bait waiter is a classic example. Instead I just place my bomb proof Drennan bait waiter through the strap on my Korum Bait and Bits bag.

Also the original Large Korum Bait and Bits Bag is one of my all time favourite luggage items. Simple but very effective with 2 outer pockets front and back. The latest version only contains one outer pocket and to which you can attach back sticks. Why 🤷🏻‍♂️ and losing the large outer pocket is a backwards step!

On the subject of Korum, I note that Korum Snapper is no more, so they are no longer in the predator market?

I use an ESP bait pouch and a small bucket for the bait, just thread the bait pouch strap through the bucket handle before fastening and tightening. the bucket of course is also waterproof is if you wade a bit further the bait stays dry too.

I used to have an old Shakespeare bait apron with two pouches and a small pocket for a disgorger a box of shot, hooks and line. I think it was a tenner. Best thing for standing in the river trotting, this idea from Korum looks like it won’t work well. I fly fish now and have a lanyard that goes around my neck with forceps, spools of line, a fly box, dry fly floating and a few other gadgets on clips. Very light and easy to use and better than a waistcoat or backpack on a warm day. Also keeps everything higher up so I can wade deep without soaking everything. No good for bait though.

IMO Korum are creating products for problems that don’t exist.

Just get a bum bag (Trakker do a good mesh boilie one) and put your bait and bits in there. I always wear a hat when fishing so anything pointy just gets tucked behind my ears.

Oh my - what an abomination!!!

80% of my fishing is spent in chest waders, out in the water trotting swims that you can’t get to from the near bank. I love this type of fishing so I’ve spent years refining my gear for this. A lightweight Orvis waistcoat bought in 2000 with a small box for shot, float rubbers and swivels in one pocket, a hook wallet in the other, disgorger and plummet and thats all I need in the event I snap off when I’m well away from the near bank.

The bait apron is essential, of course, for this style of fishing and I think I have been through everything on the market over the last couple of decades. Match style aprons, mid water dual pocket, boilie pouch etc etc. When wading thigh deep the bottom of any apron invariably may touch the water, and lead to potentially soggy maggots - which ain’t good. Not finding anything on the market which actually works as I need, I solved this by making my own, which is a simple cloth waiters apron with a triple gortex lined pocket; the waist strap is an old adjustable rifle sling fitter with quick release clips. The apron can get wet - but the bait stays dry - and it is simple and basic - and works.

This thing from Korum looks simply daft! I can almost guarantee that in use, it will tip forward and you can guess where that bait is going!

Korum seem to want to over engineer everything for the river angler, they don’t seem to grasp that simple is better.

Their glide waistcoat is as bad - I bought one largely out of curiosity, but it is stupidly heavy, the back and front is lined with stiff plastic, the zip has no lock and rides down in use, and I ended up cutting it up to see if I could modify it and eventually binned it.

Korum are part of the same group as Fox. So Fox stopped the specialist range because korum had that covered with more products and Korum stopped the Snapper range cause of Fox Rage.

I used to be a massive korum fan boy but lately their stuff is very meh! And I'm moving away. I just took a punt on the Omega 1.25 since it's on sale and it's horrible in my opinion. Meant to be fast action but it's a little floppy, more medium fast and feels tip heavy.

They seem to continually throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks, and the stuff that does they still discontinue after a couple of seasons or try to improve them but make them worse.

I loaded up my original Korum ruckbag last night and it must be at least 17 years old! Continuously overloaded and abused, but always wiped clean after ever session. Defo one of my best ever angling purchases and not sure how the current models compare in both quality and longevity?

These were the most thought out and best wading bait pouches IMO. , Tony Miles and Trefor West brought them out originally under the Double T name , then sold again by Trefor under Lone Angler. They had a liner and an Adjustable neck strap - brilliant for deep wading and not losing your bait You can still get them from Cotswold Aquarius. But the minimum order quantity is 15 😂. And they’re not cheap at about £30 each , but well worth it.

Looks a bit small to me, how many pints of maggots it holds? Thanks.

I'm all in if a group buy from Cotswold ever gets off the ground. I have one brand new Lone Angler pouch left and one that I'm still using despite it slowly wearing away. The inner bag gave up the ghost a while ago. I had new inner pouches made from Ventile fabric to keep it going. These inner bags are far superior to the originals; they are waterproof, breathable, and wash well.

Two pints with plenty of room to spare. I limit myself to two pints though as two is plenty to have hanging around your neck. It's also plenty for any single period of wading that I do without returning to the bank.

Fun fact: The Landlord of my local used to make all of this Double T stuff for Trefor and Tony. I believe he’s still got all the cutting samples too for al the products that were manufactured.

I contacted Cotswold Aquarius and they have all the samples and templates for all the lone angler range , they can still make any of the range to order without the lone angler logo either in Camo or Green but the costs are prohibitive as the minimum order quantities prevent small orders. It I hoped they would add them to their catalogue but no luck. It is something I’m thinking about for retirement next year though 🤔🤔

Chris who did you get to make your replacement liners? I could do with some for my pouches also. Tia Jim

I sourced the Ventile material myself and took it, and the brand new liner I have, to a local seamstress to copy. She made as many as she could in a £30 hour. I ended up with six new pouches.

However, I bought and fitted the press studs myself. As I failed to find the original sized studs, I also had to replace those on the main part of the bag.

As yet, the Ventile material does not seem to be affected by maggots dyes and ammonia the way the original was. After years of use, I found that the plasticky finish discoloured and went brittle. It fell apart to leave a thin woven mesh. After another few years, the outer bag is starting to break down in a similar fashion. Nothing to do with contact with maggots, just wearing away with use.

Thanks, I was thinking of taking to local Seamstress, never thought about the studs or material though? Was hoping they would have everything 🤞🏻I know what you mean about the liner mine was fine if only used for pellets and meat, with a wipe down after use, until I mistakenly put it in the washing machine then plastic backing came away.

This thread sparked a bit of a review and I bought myself a Cadence CL10 Bait Apron, which arrived today - good timing as I’m out of the river tomorrow. First impressions are good. Don’t see the need for a side pocket, but that slipped off of the belt easy enough. The rain cover is a good idea, as is its storage. The zip on the front rattles like anything - so I’ve snipped that off and replaced it with a short dynema pull cord.

I’ll report back after tomorrow.

Looks interesting, I’ve been pondering the HH bait apron

Agree with other posts the Korum thing looks horrendous
