    New chub record?

Bonkers. The fish I’m holding in my profile pic is 6.11. And it’s head isn’t nearly hitting the camera either...!

    Wanted: Shimano Rarenium CI4 4000FA

Shimano Rarenium CI4 4000FA Lovely reel and I’ve had saved searches on eBay for ages trying to get my hands on a second one, but no joy. If anyone has one in decent condition and would consider selling, please let me know/ drop me a message. Thanks all. Stu

    Cloth rod bags

That’s not a bad idea, thanks Bob. Not sure my missus is as skilled as your missus, but I know someone who is! Cheers

    Cloth rod bags

Evening all, Apologies in advance, not the most interesting thread(!), but I’m hoping someone can point me in the direction of some new cloth rod bags. I’ve managed to an additional tip section for my rods (effectively making them twin tips), but that means I now need 3 piece rod bags. Plenty...

    Lockdown watching

A mile or two either up or down stream of that stretch and you’ll probably be fine again!

    Lockdown watching

I think you’re right, that particular club stretch is going to be very busy now! As the video illustrates though, they are constantly moving up and down through the locks and travelling great distances too, so just pick a slightly quieter stretch somewhere and have confidence that there will be...

    50 chub challenge

I was neither stuck on a train nor self isolating, but I read anyway! And I’m glad I did - very enjoyable! And so much of what you said reminded me of all the hours I used to spend on the upper Thames. Great fishing, well done 👍

    Extra section for torrix

Just to go back to the original question, the answer is yes. I spoke to Mike at Harrison today and he confirmed that there is a degree of comparability. For example, I already had 2x 12’ 2lb torrix and today I ordered 2x 1.75lb top sections for them - brilliant!! 👍

    Twin tip rods

Thanks for the reply and info Bob, much appreciated

    Twin tip rods

That’s really helpful Richard, thank you. You’ve basically confirmed everything I was thinking, but didn’t really know for sure. I have a pair of 2lb torrixs, which I really like, hence wanting to go down the same route but in a lighter setup. So sounds like I need a rod builder! And possibly...

    Twin tip rods

Thanks Richard, sounds like we’re after the same thing! And yes, that’s exactly what I was finding with off the shelf options. I do like the idea of the 2oz spliced tip, as this tends to be the weight of tip I use most often. Any idea how well balanced it would be on an 11’ 1.25? Also, not...

    Twin tip rods

Hi Bob/ all, Any idea where I might be able to get my hands on a Harrison Torrix 1.25 twin tip? Have had a google but don’t seem to be able to find them listed anywhere Cheers Stuart

    So what has changed?

Hi Paul, You’re right, I was paraphrasing, so shouldn’t have used the quote marks. My points still stand though. This thread and many others reflect the same themes around frustration with change. The trouble is, our hobby is inextricably linked to nature, which is constantly evolving and...

    So what has changed?

Genuinely not being flippant, but in response to the original question - ‘so what has changed?’ - nature (as always) and us in equal measure. “It’s not what it used to be” - Yep, for most of us. But relative to the standards of the 70s, we’d still be very happy. “I now have to travel further...

Fish you have seen that have blown you away but never caught

As a very young lad growing up in Malmesbury on the Bristol Avon, I was lucky enough to spend a lot of my time next to the river - if I wasn’t fishing, I was just exploring! On one of those exploring days I found a smallish shoal of spawning roach, so obviously went in for closer examination. On...
