Still a place for a lump of luncheon meat

I think you do. I’m down next Saturday for a week and can’t wait. Maybe see you there. All the best.

Still a place for a lump of luncheon meat

I fish meat almost exclusively on a low stock river and usually manage to get one or two over the weeks when I am fishing. This has included two fifteens and a sixteen in the last two years. Never write meat off as it is a wonderful bait especially when there is colour in the water.

Rapidex II - why are they so rare ?

A happy end to the story ! Having been watching various auction houses and of course EBay since I originally posted, a good looking one became available on eBay so I took a punt. I payed 160 for it and it arrived today. Very happy with it, spins lovely and very clean and I now have it as a...

    Bait again!!!

I’ve caught barbel on the river Ribble on yellow tutie fruitie boilies in the past. I think that Alan is correct in that if they are there and feeding you can catch them on anything edible.

    Cows

About 40 years ago I was sitting back from the bank above four feet of water on the short bank above school bridge on D Stour between the two oaks that used to be there that for those of us old enough to remember that far back. I heard a noise and looked over and came face to face with a large...

    Cows

Good fun thread this one. 😂 We’ve all had our fair share of run ins with livestock in one form or another over the years, I think it is a “right of passage” for the rural angler. I once had a mate who was hassled by a small donkey for about three hours non stop. He was petrified of livestock for...

    New Age Of Barbel Fishing

I agree that it is more popular and as such some famous stretches have transitioned to syndicate, however the points made above about the average age of river anglers will ensure there will be plenty of water available in the future. I am 59 years old and caught my first barbel from the Thames...

    Is it just me?

Such a shame. Used to fish the teme thirty years ago and used to catch a lot. RIP the Teme.

    River records, etc

BRFC accepted the Lea fish at a weight of 22lb at their committee meeting on the 23rd of June according to the AT webpage.

Rapidex II - why are they so rare ?

Yes mate, seen that one but it’s the 2400 4 inch that I’m looking for.

Rapidex II - why are they so rare ?

Yes Ian you are correct they do indeed have the cage and the more I muse about it I think you are correct in that they just weren’t that popular. The originals however do seem to have been back in the 50s onwards. I have seen the okumas for sale but can’t really justify any more pins as I have...

Rapidex II - why are they so rare ?

Does anyone know why the Rapidex II does not come up for sale very often ? The original Rapidex from the 50s and 60s are for sale all over the place but very few of the ll’s. Is it because there were fewer sold as, maybe in the 80’s, centre pins were less in vogue than previously or do people...
