I agree with Christian. What is wrong with a factory built rod....Nothing. I have a pair of both Torrix 12ft 1.75lb. and Chimera Avon 11ft 1.4 lb. Both factory build, which are fantastic rods. why pay over the odds, just to look the business on the bank. the factory built have a pretty perfect...
Great rod for 95% of my barbelling Jim. Not sure if 30lb braid would be to my liking though. As for being able to land 15lb + barbel, mine have dealt with fish up to 16lb 4oz in strong flows no problem.
Have posted this picture in the thread Richard Issacs has started about his floats.
Having not float -fished except on lakes for over a decade; with conditions not being what I wanted for barbel; low and clear river.
I decided to try long trotting bread flake for the chub. It was on a very low...
Another interested party. Yesterday with conditions not really being right for barbel, I went float fishing for the first time in years. Long trotting 40yds or so and finding the shop brought tips too hard to see.
I caught one fish, and it has made me determined to try more.
Any fish like this...
Sorry for the blurred front on image.
Well as I am not catching barbel this season, and only just starting to get Chub.
I thought I would show this one from the weekend .
7LB 15OZ.
Nice to be catching something of worth after all the blanks this year.
well done Richard. why not class it a PB, even if caught on "Wrong tackle". Doesn't that only apply if using heavy tackle for say carp and catching a big roach or fishing for barbel on what many use on big rivers (ie 21/2lb tc rods and 15lb plus line !!!) and catching a chub. You were doing the...
Out of interest, this seasons purchase of sensor 8lb bulk spool, the abrasion of the line stinks to what it should be (IMO). I test every spool when I purchase, the original test appeared fine, but the line has been stretching and weakening very quickly. I have retested the line a couple of...
The rods are the the chimera Avon's. on first impressions, you think it is not powerful enough for big barbel, but as I said, they are deceptive. with balanced tackle I don't feel that they can't do the trick.
Roger, it sounds as though you are on the same rivers as me🥹, well similar ones . I did used to find the best results in the past, when numbers of fish were there; hemp and caster or mini (400 cubes to a tin) was the way to go. But over the last three seasons even this has stopped working. As...
