I recently bought a pair of Daiwa gs br 5000 reels which I absolutely love (going to buy another pair). They do a non baitrunner version as well, front drag, smooth as silk.

Okumas are very sound or if you prefer something with a bit of history an Adcock Stanton (with ratchet). I have had lots of trotting centrepins and the one thing I’d avoid is anything less than 4.5 inch as it takes too long to retrieve. I also prefer bearings pins because I can retrieve faster...

Mine is front drag which I prefer and I think is lighter but I may be wrong on that.

I have a Stradic 3000 for waggler fishing for barbel and it is the best reel I have. Has carbon drag washers, is super smooth and light. I also have a Daiwa Fuego and imo the Stradic is far superior.

I’ve managed to loosen the screw out of the centre drag knob but it doesn’t seem to make any difference to how the reel spins whether I have both screwed up tight or any other configuration. I’m not really sure how the mechanism works tbh. Do those of you who have the same reel (no ratchet) use...
