How can the Barbel Society help?

Now that made me chuckle. Very quick witted is our Crooky.

BFW poll on close season lift or extension.

Get rid of the close season. Its outdated and merely sentimental. I always chuckle when I hear people say we must protect the fauna and flora and they then go on to say how they like to walk the banks, make swims, pre bait, depth and feature find and generally do everything except cast a...

    Brazen Otter

I don't think you need to worry too much about a private forum's views being hacked by the save the otter brigade. Here is an interesting article in the Telegraph from 5 years ago. Can't get much more public than that. Anglers call for cull of otters over fish havoc

    Brazen Otter

I can see this happening more and more. It happens all over the World; North America, India, Africa etc etc. Wild animals loose a certain amount of their instinctive fear of humans as we encroach on their natural environment. They either want an easy meal or are forced to look elsewhere due...

    River Wye advice

You can get day tickets at a number of local tackle shops: Woodys, Wye Angling and Sue's Angling. Wye and Usk if you want to book. Ross or Hereford angling clubs for permits, although they may have a waiting list. Day tickets are pretty cheap and offer some good water to fish.

    Otter Petition

I'm not sure that's particularly accurate Robert. Otters have up to a max life expectancy of 10 years in the wild. The otter release programme was carried out between 1983 and 1999. Most of, if not all, of those captive bred and released otters are long dead. However otters do appear to have...

    Otter Petition

I saw nesting cormorants on a local lake to me when I was a kid....yes that long ago!! So late 70s early 80s I would guess. Mind you I don't think they were considered a problem then.

Government gives go ahead for New Cormorant and Goosander Management Plan

Haha now that did make me laugh Graham. :D Nice one.

Government gives go ahead for New Cormorant and Goosander Management Plan

I certainly don't think Graham is spoiling for a fight. He's honest and forthright that's all and very commendable too. I don't agree with his views of course but that's another matter! :) I think it goes far beyond money. People seem to be looking for something that can't possibly be...

Government gives go ahead for New Cormorant and Goosander Management Plan

I find the "too little too late" rhetoric aired at the AT as a rather distorted view. The simple fact remains that no other body has fought so hard, negotiated so strenuously to combat the massive problem of Cormorant predation in the UK's inland waterways. They have managed to do this despite...

    Otter Petition

What evidence is there to support that opening statement? I can assure you that without definitive evidence to support it, that petition is sunk before it's even started. I'm all for predation control but that to me is a waste of time I'm afraid.

New Threat to Fish from Hydropower Community Grants

A friend of a friend lives on the Bristol Avon. Between him and his next door neighbour they share a nice weir-pool. The chap opposite them wants to install a Archimedean screw. I advised them to both join and contact the Angling Trust, referring them to the above information. They are...
