Another vote for the Harrison 1:6 Avon. However I have only rolled meat with a fixed spool reel.

    Lead free feeders

Thanks guy for the suggestions, will follow up the Guru and Dinsmore options. Mark the carp boys are using stainless steel distance casting weights which are used in sea fishing I think. Will try the plasticine option. Richard the adapted Korum combi feeder would be a perfect solution. I will...

    Lead free feeders

Hi guys, I have recently joined a club which has a stillwater with a lead free rule. Not just lead shot but leads and feeders. I have sourced some open ended cage feeders made by Jaxon but no success finding any others. Does anyone know of any other manufacturers producing lead free feeders. Thanks

Long float rods for big chub

Thanks Richard for your reply. I do appreciate your many posts for your knowledge and clarity and this reply is no exception. I will feel more comfortable now running a line a little heavier than the rod stated rating. Cheers

    Link ledger tips

Totally agree Mike. I have read numerous books on angling techniques over the years but always return to John Wilson’s Manual and his species specific books. As I read them I can hear his voice in my head. Excellent description by the way Mark.

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

Len Arbery in his 1996 book In Pursuit of Big Tench recommends the the Drennan Specialist and the Legermaster as ideal rods for tench especially if swing tip fishing. Picked up two Legermasters on the strength of this recommendation.

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

Gale are you thinking of the Legermaster 1.25 TC 11ft 3in? A three piece rod with a detachable butt, sliding reel rings and threaded top eye for detachable quivers and swing tips. Have two, good rod , they have a nice soft action. I should use them more.
