Korum ? .... I know personally two people who've had Korum Barbel rods snap inexplicably on them, and I've had a quiver rod snap just above the spigot whilst retrieving a not very big ball of weed, also i personally know of an angler .... Known on here ! who's had a landing net spreader block...

Well there are mats, and then there are mats, some mats aren’t necessarily better than lush grass, but I suppose any old crap mat on top of lush grass is a plus I guess 🤔

If you don't have to follow club or syndicate rules, common sense is all that's needed. If you know the type of ground in the swims you'll likely be fishing, it's not rocket science to be able to provide sufficient protection when laying a Barbel ... or any fish on the ground or above it. If...

In a word no ! over maybe 100's of sessions fishing for chub, and Roach..... It's all I use for Roach ! I've never once had a Barbel take it ! If you forced me to use it, I'd make a stiff paste and flavour it ! ;)

IMO yes it is, but it’s a long road of learning, it’s no good having a dabble, you need to actually enjoy doing it, and it does depend on what you want from your fishing, if you’ve got a hang up about it becoming obsessive, then you’d best not do it, because to a degree you do need to be, also...
