    Tench and Bream Rod

Fair doos, I don't own 'em myself, my barbel rods still do the business for me, although I never really fish at long distance. No idea what they're like with a fish on the other end though, I'll leave that to the experts...:D

    Tench and Bream Rod

Having spent 2 days this week entirely frustrated that the tench in the pit I was fishing were rolling around the island margins that was out of range for my softer Avon rods I chose to use I'd suggest it certainly pays to have the kit up to the job of flinging feeders out to the horizon...

    tentative bites:what's going on-help!

Threads like this doesn't half ramp up your paranoia when you're on the bank! I've been fishing nice and light recently, touch legering with a 2 swan link leger with a blob of putty a few feet up the mainline as a backlead, and a simple supple braided hooklength with a fairly short hair. The...

    Blues For The Last Day...

John, looks like you had a pretty tough season on your bit! I had a blank last day, the swim I've had a lot from recently on the Colne was occupied and didn't have a touch anywhere else. As to the whole poaching issue, it happens and we all know it, and I have first hand experience of clearing...

    rod tip hi or low?

I keep my rod tops as low as possible, shallow line angle and all that - not to mention no chance of a neck ache.

    Which brand of terminal tackle?

I'm mostly Drennan, never let me down yet. I know not all of it is terminal tackle but it struck me whilst Perching the other day that almost my entire set up was Drennan - Tench Float rod, float fish mainline, loafer float, fly leader fluorocarbon hooklength and super speci hook - with a...

    Chub Fishing

Rhys, Have a look at the Drennan Series 7 Avon Quiver rod, I have the 1.5 tc and use it legering for chub and I'm very pleased with it. They do have a 1.25 tc too, which is probably a bit better suited for chub.

    Chub Fishing

One tip that I have found invaluable when it comes to chub is that some of the best swims are simple crease swims that often get ignored by chub anglers who invariably seek out raft/snag swims. I remember reading somewhere that cover often completes a good swim, but doesn't make a bad swim good...

    Perch

Spent the day at Barton Court today, whilst it was quite mild and overcast, the horrendous wind and driving rain made for a difficult days fishing. I spent most of the day perching and had 3, biggest 2.10 all on floatfished lobs. Lovely clear water perch, I think I would have had more if...

    Laser Pens

I've seen carpers use them on one of my club waters, they don't shine it in their eyes, just a quick flash sends them scarpering. I wouldn't use one, and am not particularly happy with their use but they certainly aren't supposed to be shined in their eyes, and think most carpers would realise...

    Perch

Had my first Perch trip of the season on friday, and sold my soul to Commercial fishery Perch! Only a short session and had 2 on float fished prawn to 2.01, and missed an annoying number of sail away bites. They are certainly not as vivid and striking in the muddy waters of commercials, but I...

September Fish of the Month Sponsored by Pallatrax

Taff for me, they always look better in daylight.

    Perch

That's interesting about Barton, it seems that the Chub are gaining a little foothold there, I've seen a few caught the last few years although none by myself. I suppose with the lack of roach there now the chub are a welcome target. I'm off there soon and will be after the Perch, I found a...

    Coated braid stripping tool?

My teeth seem to do the trick, although have heard some horror stories with anglers teeth being worn down biting line etc. As for knots, the palomar has never let me down, or rather my angling ability has let me down well before the knot has!
