Hi Ian, Cambridge is quite some way from B&H water up at Olney/Lavendon area. There's some quality fishing to be had on the Ivel too, but it's a tough river these days. You will struggle to catch barbel out of the Ouse, despite thousands being stocked. The chub fishing can be excellent

Although not directly related to our barbel fishing exploits, but as beavers are/have been reintroduced to waters in Shropshire and Northamptonshire, with plans for Bedfordshire, it seems that their healthy reproduction up north, is getting out of control...
The restocking process on the Great Ouse and Ivel has been going on for almost 20 years, with excess of 150,000 fish stocked.
Natural reproduction will not return generally until pollution and abstraction are majorly reduced
Of course I don't begrudge herons helping themselves. My comment was concerning the repeated stocking of undersized fish, and how easy it has been for any winged predation. Cormorants 😐
Generally quite a large percentage of local clubs sell out their memberships every year.
There's zero chance of the Ouse returning to its for.er glory until the water companies halt this mass pollution, abstraction is eased, predation and other negative influences stop.
