Between pastoring, studying (PhD in Biblical Studies at Durham), husbanding and fathering, I like to fish with float rods and centrepins. In fact I fish this way to the detriment of my chances of catching a lot of the time. The thing is, I’m interested in the artistry of angling, so the process is almost as important as the result for me. Of course that makes the blanks more tolerable, but it enhances the joy of catching when I do. I suppose I am pursuing something of the romanticism of traditional angling, but without the cane rods and tweed outfits. Cold, technical “catching” is a turn-off.
