Carp Stalker Rod?

Hello one and all,
Yesterday I managed to break the top section of my ABU Emerald Specimen rod extracting myself from an overgrown swim under a willow tree with a carp in the landing net :(

So I am thinking of getting the correct tool for the job. Anyone have any recommendations for a carp stalker rod?

I am thinking of getting something quite short to help me navigate the jungle undergrowth and also, the carp seem to be lurking right into the bank in some places i.e. less than a foot out. Hence I have been looking at something like this

Anyone tried one or something similar?

Don't use a barbel stalking rod! Learnt the hard way again on Tuesday!!!
Treated myself to a greys 9ft 2.75 rod other day. Looks fantastic for in close fishing. 6ft Wychwood rod, good too, but downside as it doesn't brake down, transportation is a bit of an issue, especially if you don't want to be rumbled!.

Thanks for all the input once again!

I ordered a pair of Wychwood 6' Extractors today so they should be here in two or three days.

Will let you know how I get on with them.

I just broke two rods so I decided I need two as replacement. At the canal I am usually fishing the nearside margin so a long rod is actually a little counterproductive. Also, there isn't usually a lot of space alongside the canal so a short rod shouldn't get in the way too much. Lastly, there isn't much depth either, normally a couple of foot or less so when float fishing a long rod isn't necessary.

Anyhow, hoping for more sunny weather and the carp to be showing on top later in the week when the rods arrive so I can do some proper stalking :)
 
Stephen, I was hoping for the same but the weather is set to drop ten degrees just before the weekend! Typical :(

Ian, its looking sunny and warm here right now :D

Now if that nice courier would arrive this morning with the rods I could go and test them :)
 
Well the rods arrived today but not before I'd managed to grab one off the top this morning with the old ABU.

They seem nicely made and light as a feather. However, compared to my old ABU 2.25lb specimen rods, the Wychwoods are poker stiff. I even connected it up to the Avons and for sure, it seems well over the 2.5lb rating, certainly more like 3lb before the rod actually bends to 90 degrees.

Am I right in thinking that rods of old were actually more forgiving and a little softer, even those with higher tests?
