Swivel knots

Hi all, as im always on the look out to improve and try things im just curious as to what knot people use for tying swivels? Im using the grinner knot and the palomar knot.

depends what i'm tying, braid, mono or fluro.
 
But can't the palomar only be used once as the swivel has to be passed through the loop?

My hooklink has a loop in it which attaches to a quicklink and tail rubber over it , if I am using mono like when chub fishing then I use a twice through the eye 4 turn grinner

I used to use the loop knot, I think I may well just stick to the palomar knot But as Paul said tie my hooklengths first and il probably use quick links to the hooklength at the night to make it quicker when changing, I like the twice through grinner but is that stronger than the palomar knot? Or has anybody had a problem with either knots failing Iv had the normal grinner fail a couple of times.

Never had a palomar or grinner go on me ,

My main reason for using the quick link is when I net a barbel I never lift it straight from the water I unclip the the clip so it is on the hook link with tail rubber , make sure fish and net is secure in margin put rod back on rest , then get all unhooking , weighing and photoing stuff ready then get get fish from water , I know that wasnt asked but explains my use of quicklink plus you can change hooklink quicker , sometimes I have another ready to go and recast rod before dealing with fish
 
Its not a case of which knot is best imo, its which knot suits the line you are using be it any brand of mono, fluoro or braid. On one fluoro a one turn grinner works on another a mahseer is far superior, whilst trying the other knot disaster awaits. When using any line I take a good amount of time trying out different knots, and find the one's which suit the line and take note.

Its worth the time and effort in finding out.

Totally makes sense of what iv tried tonight Jon, Iv been messing about trying knots all night practising all sorts of knots on swivels mainly on a spool of daiwa sensor and to be honest it's been unsuccessful with the palomar knot, grinner, clinch, and a few others most of them snapping at the knot which I find very very strange??
 
I normally use a palomar on daiwa sensor as I found a grinner did weaken the line for some reason. Normally I use Big Game clear in 10lb, sensor is 8lb but have been using Ultima power plus in 6lb and really like it so might try it in a higher bs.
 
Sat waiting for a bite one day and decided to test a few knots, palomar came out tops, followed by mahseer. Grinner, a knot I'd previously always used, came out bottom!

Funny you should mention the grinner weakening the line that's what I found it leaves a creased kink in it. Which is the same with the Preston powerline I used to use, iv noticed alot of people seem to be using big game aswel but majority using 10 and 12lb do you not feel undergunned using a 10 12lb b/s I wont use anything less than 15lb when i know fish are in the river touching 20+

Strange how knots can vary when they all seem to work so perfectly until trying a different knot.

Hi Jon - rather than every angler going through the testing process, surely there's a more scientific answer?

Certainly the palomar with mono, but what's the best knot for tying braid?

it's a great knot, never failed on me the mahseer knot.:)
i love the grinner but by the nature of tying , it can kink the the line even wetting it.
