Chasing chub....

Is that a tributary off the main river you fish Ian? Do you ever pick any barbel up in it

Hey Richard, no, that river runs into the sea eventually.
Funny enough, I did get out today way down on a tidal stretch of the large river and had a amazing session catching chub and a few dace to add to the mix! I had 57 chub from about 2 1/2lb to over 6lb, only guesstimates, nothing weighed but I think I wouldn't be too far out either way with those guesses. I had a chub on my first two trotts and then lost one on my third trott. After that I had a fish on literally every trott through. I must have dropped straight onto a huge shoal of them. Even though I was still catching I left on a good note as the wind got up fiercely and a massive bank of black clouds approached. I was glad I made that decision as I was stone cold and as I drove away it started to lash it down!
I'm a little miffed as I forgot to take my go pro 🙄.

It was an amazing session and it was totally unexpected!
I would swap sessions with the one you had the other day though 😉.
I won't steel your thunder, but those fish you had were pretty much as good as it gets 👍.
I’m keeping that under raps for the times being mate as I can’t share the photos. They are going in our club magazine and there’s a historic rule that they won’t publish photos in the magazine that have been shared on socials.

However……. All will be revealed in good time once the mag is out between club members 👍🏻

I’ve actually heard about this on the grapevine , don’t worry I’m not about to say anything on here or anywhere else for that matter . But looking forward to the catch report 👍

I’m able to fully share now as all published and done
This was the result of my last “chub” chasing session of 2025.
Not quite in the same league of the great Keith speers. We are missing a pound in weight and a blanket of snow but not a million miles off either.
Pb float caught barbel on a 4lb hook length, size 16 and a pair of reds. 16lb 2oz

Well done mate, one heck of a fish on the float.

Appreciate the kind words I’ve been chomping at the bit to share those pictures with you gents.

It’s by a landslide my biggest milestone in angling and I’m saying milestone because achievement isn’t quite the perfect word.

Im not watering it down but there was a huge amount of luck involved in that capture and to say otherwise would be delusional.

Nice one Richard, brilliant angling mate..
Out of much interest, which rod??.
Cheers mate. It was on my Tricast triaxial at 15ff
