New rod.

Stronger than what?
You can get an 11ft 2.5lb Avon from Harrison if you want
I meant it’s a shame they don’t sell a chimera 11 foot in 1.75. I’m not sure what Avon’s they do only that they do the torrix in more options at 11 foot. I only say it’s a shame in that I’ve got a couple of feeder rods that are quite tippy in action and a Harrison Avon 1.6lb which I prefer as it’s more through action.

The 11' Harrison SU Avon is a peach. 1lb 10oz TC and through-actioned like the 1.6 Avon.

I am presently considering buying an 11ft Torrix 1.75lb specialist blank. I have previously brought the Harrison Avon 1.4lb and nice it is, although the through action makes it feel a little soft in the strike. It works fine really, but by the time I have taken up the bow in the line and the rod has bent into the fish the rod is so far back I feel a little out of control. I regret not buying the Avon SU since being stepped up it may have been a little sharper in response. The Mark Tunley video posted earlier in this thread has helped a lot in my decision, it’s a shame he did not include the Avon and Avon SU in this video as well. I wonder if I had originally brought the Avon SU if I would now be considering another rod.

When I was looking for recommendations regarding the Avon and Avon SU I read a lot of potentially helpful posts on this site but I had to discount many of the posts I read since they described the rod as “1.6 “. Sometimes short for the 1lb 6oz Avon rod but sometimes “1.6” could mean 1.6lb (1lb 10oz) and referred to the Avon SU, so I did not know which rod was being praised.
I am still not sure if I’m right, but I believe.
The Avon has a test curve of 1.4lb (approximately 1lb 6oz)
The Avon SU has a test curve of 1.6lb ( approximately 1lb 10oz)

I believe you are correct Ralph. I have two of each and really like them. I have the 1-6s matched with Rapidex II centre pins for use on my local pond after tench and crucians and the 1-10s matched with either shimano bait runners or youngs light weight centre pins when after barbel on the H Avon.

They must be generally well liked, they don’t come up on the secondhand market that much in either the standard or stepped up form.
I see you use two rods on the Avon. When I fished the Avon, mostly at Ibsley I never felt that I could use two rods, the swims seemed too small.
I only have one Avon although I have a second tip with a 3oz quiver. The quiver does not come out much, mostly the areas I fish are too fast for the quiver. I have recently built a tacklebox 12oz specialist which is comparable to the Avon in action. I think it will give me a lighter tip than the Avon but not as light as the quiver. Going to try it this winter.

I've been using the Free Spirit River Tamer 11' 1.5lb TC for a few years now. This is the best rod I've ever used in my lengthy fishing career.
Had a couple of low doubles on a small river and had to put a fair bit of pressure to keep them out of snags. The rod just does the work, it's got a beautiful all through bend and action. Not a big river big lead rod but perfect for smaller streams/rivers.

It is my understanding that the following is correct:

11 Chimera Avon = 1lb 4oz
11 Avon = 1lb 6oz
11 SU Avon = 1lb 10oz

Two of each!

Don’t generally use two rods as prefer to rove around these days. I do however usually have one rigged with the Shimmy and one with the youngs lightweight (leaving one or other at my digs) depending on the beats I intend to fish that day. I will occasionally fish two rods if I’m feeling lethargic and can’t be bothered to move around much or if I really fancy a certain swim.
