I got back into barbel fishing 18mths ago after a 22 Yr break. Used my 2 stradics that I brought in the early 90's I think , one of which started having gear problems. Took it as passing to the company in Wales that repairs Shimanos. Gearing for these reels is no longer available. Bid on a few I saw on ebay over the close season but wouldn't go above £80. Finally got one for about £70 that will have its first try out this coming Monday on the wye or Severn. Great reels, I never use a drag and these reels have been perfect for big fish. Keep looking as they do come up for sale. I don't suppose that i had been using it for bass fishing helped over the intervening years.
 
They do come up occasionally in mint condition…if the reel stem is not scuffed, and still pearly white/ not yellowed, it still has the original shimano sticker on the top of the stem and the transfers are not worn then likely a goodun! Im a fan of the Stradic brand, rods and reels, and have a few minters but they were hard to find. I actually managed to find a Stradic 4000 x brand new a few yrs ago along with an unused Fox Kevlex rod in an old tackle shop…still not used it but couldn’t part with it. Keep a saved search on eBay and good luck👍
