New Age Of Barbel Fishing

Most people don’t like to walk far so I can’t see it becoming like carp fishing really just for that reason, well, maybe apart from roadside/easy access areas which have got busier.
Why are the Kenner, Avon , Stour, so poor now for barbel? I mostly fish the Yorkshire derwent and I’m a bit disappointed when I blank now, (still blank a lot) it’s not easy but a much better barbel river than it used to be. The Ouse, Nidd , Wharfe all have healthy barbel stocks, as far as I know are generally better than they were 20 years ago, though I don’t know them as well. Then you have the Trent, Severn, Wye which I’ve never been to but all recognised as good barbel rivers.

In regards to youngsters coming through and by that I mean in their 20,s early 30,s there are still a few on the nene one of them is in our syndicate …he’s in he’s early 20,s and he puts most of us to shame… a real thinking angler and not scared to try new techniques… baits etc but he does put the hard work in ….. as the old saying goes you get out of it what you put in ……in fact it’s a joy to see him being so successful
