Barbel spawning this morning ....

Once water temp reaches 20 deg i stop fishing for barbel
I've never felt the need to race off to the rivers to fish for barbel & chub come June 16th, they're inevitably quite stressed & weak during this period, & then having us lot fishing for them during this period dont sit well with me on a personal note, and it usually takes them an age to recover properly once landed.

No. I usually start around mid to end July August to give them a chance to be in a better physical state. But if I see them spawning even then, I head off home.

The fresh flush of water going through has most likely kicked a lot of fish into doing another spawning.
They were spawning a few weeks back so they are prolly taking advantage of the low water and higher temp's.
We've had no extra water on the Warks Avon . I think it was more to do with the air and water temp yesterday and humidity .
Im going to pop back this morning and see if they are still about 🌞

And they were all young fish .. there were around 20 in total spread across the river . As you say a positive sign after the disaster in recent years !!
By young fish I suppose they are smaller males, well hopefully, recent years have seen larger unattached females be the main inhabitants, and a distinct lack of males. This is very encouraging, I love seeing Barbel spawning, but I haven't seen that for years, last was Teme, and the Bristol Avon.
