Rod set ups

It's the old teenage carp boy that's still in me...

I try and avoid having matching rods when Barbel fishing when using ( often I dont). It's my personal little protest about what's happened to Carp fishing and specialist angling in general. To me it makes no difference having different set ups. I will, for example, fish a fixed spool on one and a centrepin on the other or maybe even two pins, one with the line off the top, one off the bottom. I have no trouble adapting.
I have just read how silly that sounds! Sorry! The point I was trying to make was that to me atleast, how they look doesn't really matter. We are all different though, but having the very best matching rods and reels wont make anyone a better angIer. I am very fussy about presentation, bait placement, lines and hooks which are the things that really matter. With wary fish, having two lines in the water doesn't always give you an advantage and can increase the chance of spooking them. Oh yes, a daft comment about lines coming off the top or bottom of centrepin reels! Of course this isn't something I would do for any particular reason! A few of mine do have line off the top which is better for trotting, but I wouldn't purposely pick one of each! Right. I will keep quiet now. 🙂

No not at all, for me it’s how the identical set ups cast with the same accuracy and play the fish with the same force / resistance if the rods and reels were the same in construction / materials etc but painted in totally different colours I wouldn’t mind at all! I’m not a carp angler! 7

No worries Andrew I get you...liking your soh 😃

I think as anglers we need a bit of live and let live and also to take notice of winks that indicate even though I have both, I don't take them too seriously.
I agree each to their own as long as people are enjoying their fishing I have no qualms with it, I’m only joshing mate 👍🏻
