Flipping Mouse

Ian Murfin

Senior Member
Flipping mouse has eaten my middy specialist landing net. I'm gutted, I must have had it 20+ years and it's been excellent. I particularly liked that it had some lead stitched into the bottom which helped with netting.

Long shot but does anyone know of any replacement nets that are weighted? Failing that any recommendations for more standard replacements would ne much appreciated. The arms are 32".

Got off lightly. I’ve lost in the last year 2 x bedchairs, 2 x sleeping bags, korum roving rucksack, 2 x jackets and 10 kilo of bait to mice in the last year. Now have 3 cats so fingers crossed they’ll get rid of them.

Get some mouse traps and always have them set. Nutella is the best, it's like crack for mice. I bagged 6 in October, that had ate into some pellet bags, then nothing until last week. When another sprung a trap...

Yes. I lost a super size pike net.

Noticed two groundbait bags in the boot had holes in them.

Stripped boot out and the korum net had been bitten through half way around the top

Never had them in the boot before and really worried that they may get into rhe electrics of the car. That could be terrible news.
Two mouse traps overnight, and two mice.

Left two more days and all seems good, no more signs. I'm guessing they got in via a tackle bag on the grass.

Have always kept two traps primed in the shed without result.

Our bleeding Cat brings then into the house alive, then proceeds to let them go and just watch them. The last one was under a cabinet in the hall. Eventually caught it in the kitchen after it made a run for it. Cat was asleep on the bed. I find the hoover is a good way of catching them if they're in awkward to get at places.

Strangely, they don't seem to go in our garage where my kit is. There has been a bag of G/B in there since September, but it's not been touched.

You are correct in worrying about the little bar ….. in your car Graham.
A couple of years ago my last Volvo began playing up, different warning lights coming on for this and that , the local garage checked it out , couldnt find anything wrong. We called in an Auto Electrician he did his stuff and found a mouse nest underneath the back seats, the little sods had pulled a lot of the sound muffling padding into a cosy home for themselves, and then started to chew through the wiring loom.
I had an idea that a mouse may have climbed inside my rod sleeves whilst I was fishing and exited when I put them in the car to go home.
The Electrician said he had a couple or three cases of rodent attack every year on various cars, but they were always cars that were from rural areas, I live in a rural area, but still no knowledge as to where the little sod got in, cost me a good wedge to get fixed as well.
We had another large rodent problem last year , visiting my son in Germany, he lives in a heavily wooded area, one night a Pine Marten climbed under the bonnet of my present Volvo, ate through the engine cover and crapped all over underneath the bonnet. It seems they also like to eat through brake hoses . Maybe I was lucky .
I have bought an Ultrasonic device for deterring the Pine Martens, it gives out a high pitched ping which they dont like. It seems to work, as I have had no trouble from the Martes since then in Germany .I wonder if it would work for Mice in the UK?
Worth thinking about as they devices dont cost much, certainly cheaper than replacing nets and Rod bags etc.
David .

Ian,

Is this the triangular one that's camo coloured mesh? If so there's a chance I have one on the garage thats not seen the light if day for 14 years.

If it is you can have it mate if it's still there.

Thanks

Lewis

Mice....🤬🤬🤬

3 years ago a couple of mice had set up home in the garage. I soon discovered chewed bait bags etc and a drawer full of chewed material they were using as bedding. Put some traps down and caught them..... Or so I thought......

Spring and summer came, no issues

Winter arrived and I suspected another had found a home but didn't catch it so thought nothing if it. That winter I didn't fish for 3 months nor have any need to go in the garage........ BIG MISTAKE

The wife was away one weekend with the kids so I decided to tidy the garage. I soon found nest, after next after nest.... All abandoned..

Methodically working through the garage I found 6 rods with chewed cork handles, a number of ruined nets, ruined luggage, bait stashed everywhere.

It wasn't until I opened the children's pram we had in storage that I found where 8 of them were happily living, having turned the whole pram into pee stinking Mousehole.

Over 1k of damage and a very angry wife ....

Needless to say I now have 10 traps in the garage from September to April and have since only caught 2...

Thanks

Lewis

That's very kind of you Lewis. Mine had a black mesh, I'm not sure If they did different colours or not.
I need a replacement regardless and prefer triangular ones, so if you have a net that you don't need anymore I'll happily take it off your hands for a few quid rather than buying new.

Get some cheap metal filing cabinets for storing bait. I keep a couple of traps baited all year round, catch a few per year, thankfully I haven’t had anything damaged yet.

Just how do you manage toget a photo like that Dave?
On the banks of the Stour one frosty morning. An old lady regularly put out some seed for the birds which attracted the brave ( hungry) mouse around our feet as a few of us were chatting . I knelt down to get this shot ,.. it’s a favourite.🙂

The net has arrived safely, is pretty much the same as the old one and has been fitted ready for a trip to the river tomorrow. Fingers crossed that the new curse doesn't strike. Thanks again Lewis, you are a star!
