Army goretex?

Following on from a recent thread where there was some recomendations for un-issued army goretex jackets...
Does anyone know what the acronyms DPM or MVP stand for???
I'm looking for one with pockets but i see some seem to be designed to wear below a top layer (without pockets).
I'm confused.
If anyone could shed any light on this i would be most grateful and maybe a reccomended supplier would be good too :)

The last MoD general issue of DPM Goretex definitely did not have pockets. Some of the previous issues did. However, those older versions will be rather old now. I don't recall having pockets on my standard issue Goretex since around 2000(ish). The chances of finding brand new genuine issue Goretex of the pattern with pockets is likely to be quite slim. I believe (but could be wrong, imminent demob meant I never got it issued) that the new general issue MTP (Multi-Terrain Pattern) Goretex has a small pocket and insignia patch on one arm but no breast or hip pockets. I suspect that your only real chance of getting genuine military Goretex with pockets is to buy a foreign nation version. Alternatively, you might find non-issue versions (not usually cheap) or MoD specials. Where they exist, such specials are usually made for specific units or are trade specific. That often makes them more desireable and expensive on the open market (E.G. Para smocks etc). I've no idea if such a special Goretex jacket with pockets exists. I certainly haven't seen one.
 
German army goretex jaclets in flecktarn have two pockets at hip level. If buying any army goretex I would recommend only buying new (unissued) gear as anything that has been washed may have lost its repellency, rendering the breathability useless in wet conditions. I think there's also a NATO jacket with pockets, but it retails at a higher price.

I am still serving (for now) and am lucky enough to have on issue the new MTP (Multi Terrain Pattern ) Goretex POL (Petrol Oil and Lubricant) jacket and sallopettes pictured in link above.

They have pockets both in the jacket and sallopettes but are like the proverbial 'Rocking Horse Poo' cos they are only issued 1 per unit unless you are in a specialist Logistic Corps Regiment eg West Moors Pet Depot.

For that reason I suppose they would be hard to find:( so to that end when I do finish next June I think they may get 'lost'.

New German Flecktarn jackets unissued onebay now at 19.99 delivered.

Also recomm the bib n brace trousers. These come with quilted liners and I have used for last 5 years+.

Derek I wish I could but to be honest even the stuff I have will let in water when it is really ****ing down.

I think the only way to guarantee quality is to pay for it, sadly.:(
 
Just a few dos and donts for any Goretex. Always buy brand new. Never wash with detergent get someone to brush you down with water. If you walk through spikey bushes ie brambles and hawthorns etc it will leak. Its just a membrane microns thick between 2 pieces of material
Personally i wouldn't buy Civi goretex as the price is absolutely ridiculous. Its only to keep yourself dry on the odd occasion. New military goretex will keep you dry and for £50 you can easily kit yourself out
Buy bigger so you can use it over your warmers kit in winter as it will wick away moisture to the colder gore layer. I know i come from a mil background but it definitely aint rocket science. British is v good
The American and Dutch is even better but for the price you cant beat our own forces kit. What you will find though os the bigger sizes are hard to comeby as most military guys are on the athletic side if you know what i mean.

I have one its a extream cold conditions parka from the American army it is one of the best buys I have ever made. It has a built in snow skirt to stop any draughts under arm zip vents really good Velcro cuffs and super hood, combined with a warm fleece and some nikwax to re proof its the perfect fishing partner... If that's any help..

Interesting Anthony. I thought it was the same as the others that are listed as Gortex or Trilaminate.

If you put in German Gortex Jacket in search it appears the same in all respects so suggest thats the search to do.

I'm using an Austrian army Goretex jacket and bib n brace, very well made and the jacket has 4large pockets on the front. Got mine from Felton army surplus in Preston, they have plenty other options in Goretex on there website.
 
ordered some british army gortex pants from surplus and outdoors on sunday
arrived today and look good for £24.00.i got them one size bigger to fit over
winter clothes and they are perfect fit
