YAC 1-3/4 specialist rod

Hi, seen this rod in their barbel rod section on their website but no details on it, just wondered of anyone had seen it or got one to give me some detail prior to me ringing them, cheers

Yately

Hi Chris,
The Yately rod is based on a Harrison blank (99% certain) and is a cracking rod-picked up the 12ft 1.75 and it is very similar to Trefor Wests rod (probably not as quick in action), it is unfussy in looks, but very well put together-will be ordering a 11ft 1.75 off them for the Loddon-for the money it is as good as anything available (IMO).

Cheers Dave

The Harrison 'Torrix' 1.75 is a beautiful blank and absolutely perfect for most situations. I also have a 1.5 TC for the Kennet that bends through to the butt. Had mine hand built on this blank by Ian Tucker, Ian like a few others offers choice of handle, reel seat, rings and colour scheme.

Yep, the Torrix is a fantastic blank, i have a ten foot 1.75 built by Dave Lumb, it is one of my favourite rods, the action of it is superb.

I have seen quite a few of the YAC rods both carp and barbel out on the banks and the quality really is top drawer. I am not sure where you live Chris but popping in to see Ruth or Charlie at the shop will be of a real benefit for you, i believe they will build exactly what you want.

Going by the pictures - NO.
Got a good idea of the two most likely blanks for models mentioned, but nuff said.

Torrix butt sections have cross weave fabric. Acurix finer closer weave, and Chimeras the weave is 'coarser' than the previous mentioned. For other some other blanks then they are 'plain' carbon (eg Bfw i-power) - like the picture on the YAC site.

Went and looked atthe rod today up at YAC and was really disapointed with it. Full duplon handle that did the blank no justice but the biggest groan was the rings, really tiny float rod type rings that would cause you no end of grief with weed clogging them up when retrieving. The action was excellent , its a harrison ballista , but the handle and ringing sadly let the rod down so its the Martin Bowler one for me with its short cork handle and large rings and a steely action it wins hands down
