Winter rolled meat.

I don't fish much through the winter, but I'm hoping to get out this weekend. I've rolled meat in the summer, but never in the winter. Is it still a good method to try when it's colder ??

Meat in its self is not as effective in winter as it is in summer. Oily fatty baits and generally large baits in cold water especially low clear rivers wouldn’t be my first choice.
The method of moving baits however certainly can be.
If I was going to use meat in the winter I’d Scale it right down in size so it’s a relatively small bait and control it under a float. I’d still drag bottom to get it where you want it. I wouldn’t be chucking much if any at all in as lose feed mind. As darkness falls you can probably get away with a bigger bit and nail it down to the deck.

I don’t think it will be an easy one. If the rivers your way are anything like what they are down here I’d be getting the maggots out

Cheers Rich.

I was hoping to be out the house by 6am tomorrow, so maggots are out. I've cubed a small tin of meat up so could make them smaller. I've also got other baits I can use. Alternatively, I could go on Sunday and go and get maggots tomorrow, although I do have some dead maggots in the freezer.
