I agree about the weight settling your bait and hook down amongst the gravel. This is why I leave a tag on my knot. I nip a shot on the tag ( usually a no. 4) . As has been said, a double uni or grinner works well too and I have never had a problem with that. I usually use 12lb line and braid to give that little more security with the knot.

I have gone back to nylon to form the main part of the combi rig because fishing the Severn the fluro isn't necessary and it costs more due to all the rocks! I do sometimes use fluro when I fish the Avon and personally like the Fox Illusion. I bought some Seaguar Grand Max which is ok but I find it a bit delicate and dont trust it around rocks.
