Which knot is this ?

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the knot below is and would it be any good for a Combi rig. It looks easier to tie and tidier than the Albright variants.

Thanks.

Ps no idea why the picture is upside down !!!

For those who want to know all I did was download the Google Lens App on my phone and show it the knot Steve provided. I checked it first on my mug of coffee, so it works on anything. I wonder if it would tell me where to cast next when fishing....;)

LOL. Your IT skills are far superior to mine, I couldn’t even get the damn picture the right way up !!!
Back to the knot: thanks for the identification and doing a bit of reading it appears to be a good knot as long as you put enough turns on the braid otherwise it could slip. I’m going to tie a few up on Sunday and have a play. Thanks for the response Carl.

Steve, have you considered the 4 turn water knot, can't get much simpler really and it works well ?
Hi Steve, are you joining braid to fluorocarbon, if so , in what scenario??
Hi Cliff, yes I did consider the water knot but was unsure how it would work with different materials or thicknesses which leads nicely into your question Jim. I am wanting to tie 10lb Berkley fluro to 10lb drennan gravel braid to create a combi rig. I have been using this for the last five years or so and currently attach the braid to the fluro via a micro swivel. I have had some big fish on this setup and not lost any through line/knot failure yet.

But…..there is always a niggling doubt in the back of my mind that I have five knots between me and a hooked fish and so am looking to reduce the number if I can. I have tried Albright knots but find them difficult to tie and they always look untidy when finished. When I first started, many years ago, an experienced elderly angler told me to remember that an untidy knot is an unreliable knot and that has stuck with me through the decades.

By removing the micro swivel I reduce the number of knots to four but at least that’s 20% less anxiety !

I am also thinking about how to use the knot between mainline and link thus removing a further swivel and replace with some form of bead/stop knot or ledger stop arrangement behind the knot thus reducing the knots to three. 40% and getting more comfortable !

Sometimes I am accused of overthinking stuff !😀

Steve, just tie up a link using the 4 turn and test it at home, see what snaps first ? Btw, if you use this know and the knot to tie the hook you'll only have two knots won't you ?
my mistake, 4 ..doh !
LOL. Was trying to work out how you got to three !
Just use the double uni knot:
Steve, Going to try the uni at the main line end of the rig and get the number of knots down to three. I’ll have a play in the garage on Sunday and post some piccies. Thanks for the responses so far gents.

The back to back grinner knot is very easy to tie and seems to go under the radar.

I use it frequently in my Perch fishing, joining braid to fluorocarbon and without issue (landing accidental Pike to 18lb). So I did a test joining 15lb ESP Soft Ghost to 15lb Drennan Gravel Braid. Attached it to a cast iron 14lb dead weight and it lifted it off the floor multiple times. In my mind that test means it should land any Barbel that swims 👍🏻

It looks a bit like a simplified version of an FG knot. I’ve never seen or heard of it before (and I’m a bit of knot geek as a result of my saltwater fly fishing).

Recently I’ve tied my combi rigs with a size 11 swivel as the join. It looks awful but for reasons I can’t explain it works really well for both barbel and carp.

I agree the swivel works but the five knots between me and a fish just keeps nagging. I think the swivel may add a bit of extra weight near to the bait keeping it stable in the turbulent flow on the river bed. My mate uses tungsten putty close to the hook to get the same effect.
