I got the 1 lb 6oz T/C with the new reel seat for that price too, it is a great rod, I would go for it even at the new full retail price.


I would check that the reels seats are the new metal ones (they look it) rather than the old wood fittings.

Would the J W Young 1.6t/c suit bigger rivers such as they Wye/Severn/Trent?

I think it has more uses than that, although that's it's primary function... actually there's not many rivers around here I can roll meat, it's not at all like the Hampshire Avon with no bankside vegetation:)

I have it with me right now actually (saddo), and I have given it a wriggle and it would be fine as a small river rod, and although it's an all through action it has quite a fast tippy action, so probably a better bet than the Avon rod for trotting a chubber float or similar. Also a good tool for exploring those undercuts near bank?
