Which 15ft float rod for the Trent

Looking at getting a float rod for rolling meat across the middle of the Trent I was thinking 15ft is ideal as the Trent is wide where I fish.

has anyone used the shimano purist trotting rod sounds ok for the money just over £100 but would I be better off spending more on something of better quality ? Thanks.

I have a 15 ft aerocast and have tried the rest but like rocking horse poo to find. Nothing better imo. Daiwa spectron 14ft xp a close second. Would love to here how you have done rolling on the trent?

I haven't tried float fishing on the Trent for years want to try it again is the aerocast shimano ?

Yes, the Aerocast is a Shimano rod from two or three years ago. Occasionally, alternative similar rods pop up in the Shimano catalogues. The key thing to look out for is "45(0)SPC" in the code. It means it's a 15' Specimen Match rod. I have two, an Aerocast and an older Technium DF. Both have happily handled double figure Trent barbel when trotting.

A quick look at the current Shimano catalogue and it looks like there's only one 450SPC model this year, a Speedcast (SPC45SPC). Having never laid eyes on it, I'm not going to recommend it as such, but it might be worth looking out for.

Hardy Marksman Supero has a great action, a little heavy would be my only criticism (and expensive).

I'm not sure a longer rod is of any advantage when rolling meat as you have a bow in the line to keep the bait moving in a straight line. I tend to use shorter rods for rolling, just because they are lighter. Recently found a couple of places suitable for rolling meat on the middle Trent myself and hope to give it a go soon. Haven't done any rolling for several years, it's great fun in the right swim.

Went to one of my local tackle shops today and had a look at the hardy but I also had a look at the free spirit power float it's one hell of a rod just a shame it costs so much.
