whats the difference

hi all,
last year i bought some 'winter lamprey sausage, glug and paste' from teme severn, (which i must say were very good), but why are they winter? will they cease to work in the summer? what's the difference? thanks in advance 'cos i don't have a clue
thanks leon

hi,
thanks for the reply Chris. surely then this means they will still be ok to use in summer? just possibly not as good as a bait with a high oil content?

It is more likely to contain an emulsifier to help with leakage, if that is the case it will still work in summer but will lose it's smell/taste quicker.

Ian has it about right. They are a lot more soluble and break down quicker in cold water conditions than the plain lamprey product. They will work in the summer but will just break down much quicker in the higher water temperatures.

Cheers Lewis:)

Concur with Ian & Lewis. Other than emulsified (winterised) oils it might also contain Fish Meals LT94 (Produced from chilled raw fish, it is treated at low drying temperatures, maintaining more of the nutritional qualities and amino acids, making it far superior to most standard fishmeals) or predigested enzyme treated fishmeals (produced from whole fish, this fine, floury, aromatic meal is processed under a very strict process that involves spray drying, flash pasteurisation and natural enzymatic hydrolysis). As already highlighted, winterised baits are specifically designed for high leakage in colder waters which increases as water temps increase. Use in summer conditions with full confidence being aware that longevity on the hook will be less. One could improve this winterised bait for summer application by dosing them with any fish based oil eg salmon oil.

Cheers, Jon

thanks for all the replies guys,
i think that just about covers it, i shall use them in summer with full confidence, may get some summer ones for nights.
