What landing net pole?

Recently had a drennan specialist extending pole which worked realy well but has now split from end to end i did not over tighten it so not sure how it has happend and dont realy fancy getting another so what other alternatives do you guys use thanks Alan.

I invested in a Gardner one for the new season - all looks good so far, and I've managed to land a few fish with it too :)

iv just got the drennan twistlock and love it very solid and very well balanced with the iq strong arm, i did like tge gardner just too bulky for my liking.

Been following this thread and after having problems with the flow and a nice Barbel on the Wye week before last (Wye June 2012 Report) I've purchased the Gardner one too Gardner Specialist Extending Landing Net Handle
Having examined the product and listened to a couple of anglers who have used it I cannot recommend it and will be taking it back for a refund, is there another Gardner product that the rest of you are referring to as I can see there is a problem with the one I linked to ?

Here are the reports I've had :-

1. Got one of those Brian. Awful design. The extending pole rotates very easily. I use mine as a weighing aid now - bloody heavy also.

2. Although I don't have one myself, I'm afraid I have to agree. A mate has one & its a bloody useless liability - the pole is very difficult to extend, but seems to have no such difficulty when it comes to the net rotating at inappropriate times. The collar seems to screw tight enough to stop you easily undoing it, but not tight enough to stop the inner from rotating. I used it to (try to) land a pike from a stillwater last winter - the net just would not stay in a horizontal plane. Ended up dashing back to my swim for a decent net. God alone knows how it'd perform in running water!
Take it back!

Thanks for your replys spoke to Drennan today and they have told me that a rep from drennan will take a look at the pole and as long as they are happy i will get a new one so fingers crossed.

I have both the Drennan and the Gardner. Still can't quite put my finger on exactly why, but it's the Drennan that I generally take with me.

Oh no not the 'rep brush off again. The shop has got responsibility to the customer not the rep. If you have a problem with the goods then any decent retailer would take it upon itself and not pass the buck.
Seems to be a trend in tackle retailers.

Neil I did manage to get refund from the tackle shop on the chair I bought when the stitching went . It might be worth a saying , Keep your receipt on any purchase .

agree with you all, there a lot of shops, should change the broken item, with a replacement or your cash back, no quibbles, dont want to hear the bull, about the rep when he comes to check the item, does he come to check the shops cash for it ?????
no, must admit, ive only ever had one incident over a reel bought from a shop, the assitant
would nt change it for me when i rang up, so i called into the shop with this reel,
and said in asert voice, well folks i would buy anything from here, cos they dont want to know if its broken, but take your cash,as soon as i said this the assistant came over and asked me what was wrong, and he change asap , the assitant who sold the reel to me disappeared, think the shop assitant didnt want the shop to empty, with me telling them what **** there were comming out with ????????

But did you have to wait for the approval of the rep? :) The same shop in question have still done nothing about my chair as it was 'passed on to the rep', over THREE years ago, and believe me I am not a one for accepting bad service normally, but I really have given up on this one. I have also been waiting for over three weeks for the Gardner rep to supply a Gardner handle for me to look at:rolleyes:

Valid point about a receipt, but when do you ever get a receipt as Eddie points out? However most retail outlets will simply find your purchase details via the debit/credit card transaction to validate details. Just why tackle shops offer such awful service is a mystery, is it any wonder that anglers buy largely on line?

What I would like to see is the American super store type model such as Wal Mark / Bass Pro shops where you can browse without the feeling that you are keeping the owner from his dinner out the back:)

Go Outdoors are getting there, but still there seems to be some stupid ill advised buyers that haven't a clue about fishing tackle, witness Argos etc!!

And it's still raining!!!!!

Neil each time I phoned them about my chair , They told me they could not get hold of the rep  So I went and paid them a visit and eventually and very reluctantly gave me a refund .
What upset me was , That they know my face in the shop and I got the impression that they thought I was trying to con them .
They could clearly see that the stitching had gone .
Neil can I suggest you go back to the shop and tell them that after 3 years it should of be sorted by now and ask for your money back .
