What are you going to do differently for the coming season?

hello

Reflecting back on the past season while sitting in front of the telly this evening I realised I'd had a great season but didn't really catch much, and certainly nothing during the day.

My tactics had been heavy tackle for solitary bigger fish as I wanted to land them if I hooked them, but I had only one bite in daylight. Now this could be because the fish fed at night or it could be because my tackle was like a tow rope that it had to be dark.

So I'm going to try and up my game in terms of rig camo this next season and try out more flouro/combi rigs. Pic to follow shortly of this evenings rather complex creation.

What are you going to try?

cheers, simon

Hi chaps , there is only one way forward for me !
Back to basics !! During the day its stick float with caster and hemp or feeder with caster and hemp or rolling baits . At night its static baits ! I know this approach works and produces !!

For me to find barbel in new and unlikely areas and to catch one on the float. Also to find that one monster fish (14+)from the Bristol Avon that will be enough to keep me busy.

To try to catch one on rolling meat and to be more mobile.

I didnt fish as much as normal last season and when I did these were normally short sessions local to me on the Wye, this season i intend to return to my 2 day sessions away from home on the Teme,W,Avon,Trent etc basically more variation in my fishing than just the 1 river with the 1 method.

I am going to probably do similar to you. I will spend far more time doing 2 -3 day sessions on the Trent and also Severn, Teme, W Avon areas as well as my guiding on the Wye.

Probably far fewer local Kennet, Loddon, Thames etc Aventures.

Hi All
Just enjoy being back on the river bank's of the Dorset Stour Hampshire Avon Wye and the river Teme.
A few PB's on my trip's would be great bonus too if they come my way.:D

Simon,

I am actually going to get a few sessions in before the winter hits hard this year!!! Oh, and get to the river to grab a good swim before you get there :)

personally i plan on retiring now the wife,s gone back to work and spend the entire summer on the goyt with a few extra trips to the wye and a week on the havon fishery on the teme.
well i cant see her indoors being happy so i might have to do a few hrs to keep her sweet :)

Well apart from a little tweak to my bait  - i can't help it ! I'll be sticking as always to tried and trusted basics........ find em' feed em' and don't spook em' .

Ian

Looking forward to stalking fish on the Teme and Bristol Avon - would love a 'teen' fish from either one... will also be spending some time on the Wye and visits to a few other rivers.

Too much choice... which is fine by me!

I'm gonna fish prebaited swims in rotation in an attempt to draw and hold fish ( carp as well as barbel ). Don't worry, this will be on the Thames rather than a smaller river where this approach could back fire by over feeding and 'hacking off' anglers on the same stretch. I need to do something as 'chuck it and chance it' is simply to haphazard on a big river like the Thames.

Its a bit like confession time. My mission for next season is to catch 12lb plus Tidal Trent Barbel, instead of watching Jim catching his 13lbers. Its a very small wish list, but ultimately achievable....

Nothing really different for me.......just enjoy it and if some nice fish come along then great.Oh and this next season make sure that I keep a record of what I do rather than being too lazy to write it down!! :)

I'm looking forward to fishing a few different rivers this year, Ouse, Kennet, Wye along with the Severn and Teme. Going to get into fishing a few different tactics to suit the different rivers, swims etc everything from hemp and caster upto a big piece of meat. Would also like to catch a decent fish on the float this coming season.
