Wanted: Daiwa SS1600

If you get no joy I can recommend the GS3000GTI I've just bought the 4000 for floater fishing next year and reviews have stated it has an improved clutch and line lay than the SS range. I'm not positive but I reckon the 3000 will be a similar size to the 1600, the 4000 is similar to the 2600.

I also orederd and installed the quick drag mod.

My bad,,, it's the GS3000ltd

DOH!!

Edit, I see you may be sorted now!
Yes sorted thanks. My first choice was the GS as i also have the baitrunner version & like them but the reviews of the SS all seem to rave about the clutch so i thought i’d try one.

I'm surprised about the clutch, recent reviews and I believe Daiwa also state that the clutch on the GS has been improved???

The 3000 looks like rocking horse shit now anyway!

I was hoping the SS1600 is more 4000 size as the 2600 looks slightly too big for what i want? All very confusing when it comes to reel sizes.

The 4000 is quoted to be ideal for floater fishing/close range tactics for carp, the 3000 is quoted as being ideal for big river/barbel fishing.

The 4000 looked pretty similar in size to the 2600 in AD a few weeks ago, which is why I presumed the 3000 would be similar in size to the 1600 (which I've never actually seen). I actually wanted the 3000 for my new 2.25lb dedicated floater rod whilst thinking about getting the 4000 for the same rod in 3lb for heavier/weedier waters.

The SS1600 is 4000 size if your referring to shimano sizes as a reference.

The clutches gained alot of press because when these reels came about originally 30 years ago, nothing really would touch them on the clutches or the line lay.

Today they are still very good in both aspects but they aren’t anything super special now because other reels have played catch up and some have very smooth bearing assist clutches that are in a league of their own again.

Where these reels are really very good is the build quality and serviceability,
It’s not the smoothest of reel, it’s certainly not a well balanced reel and definitely not a quiet reel but you can buy one that’s 30 years old, been to absolute hell and back and it will almost certainly still out last something in a similar price range that was made today.
