Updated EA website

I regularly log on to the EA website to check current river levels, the EA bless them have re - vamped theirs. I don't have a problem with it but I found a piece of data quite confusing.
Whilst checking the Trent levels the other day, I noticed that Colwick just outside Nottingham had 3.2 metres on, North Muskham a fair distance away downstream of Newark also had 3 metres on but the Farndon station, between the two only had 1.6metres on.
Excuse me if I appear a bit thick here but surely Farndon which is between the other gaugeing stations should also be carrying 3 metres.
The only assumption I can make is that the Farndon station is situated very close to or on Newark Dyke. Does anyone have any knowledge of where this gauge is.
 
Paul the depth will vary along a stretch depending on the width of the channel. A wide river will be able to carry the same volume of water but at a shallower depth. I can't help you with the particular stretch you are referring to but it may be that water is diverted along the route. The regulars should be able to help you but in the meantime, just keep a check on the three stations you were referring to and see if there's a definite pattern.
 
Interesting this Anthony as the Trent at Muskham is quite a bit wider than Farndon. I checked the times on the website and they were the same. The only conclusion I can come to is that the Trent splits at Farndon. The natural river goes over a weir and flows via Kelham before re - joining at Crankley point. The other stretch goes straight on through Newark and is Newark Dyke. This stretch is navigable the natural river below the weir is not. Im guessing the extra water would split some via the Dyke and some via the natural river. My guess is the gauge is likely to be on the Dyke for navigation
