Yes..The only two times I fished the Wye for Salmon actually caught a few each time on a red Flying C. I wasn't targeting them...as one out of coarse fishing season Angler once stated..

I think the Wye has the biggest run of these in the UK of the 4 rivers that have them.
 
Years ago, before they were granted protected status, we used to target the shad run at Builth. The Irfon confluence pool used to be full of them, and they would hit anything silver. The numbers were unbelievable, the bottom of the pool would be covered in the carcasses of the ones that had died after spawning.
