Trotting reel other than 'pin, help please!

Hi lads, I wonder if anyone can help with this one please.

When trotting i prefer to use a narrow drum speedia, but this is little use for far bank work on wider rivers. I have used Mitchell 440 Match and Abu 500 series closed face reels for this work but these are getting a bit tired now. Any suggestions for a modern equivalent particularly for finer lines?

Thanks

Ade

I do a lot of trotting on the trent for barbel when conditions dictate, and reel with some power is neede. I use shimano technium 5000/6000 which is superb. I have used other smaller sized from shimano and daiwa and stickiness and lock up occurred, with the technium all was well. Sadly they are not available for sale now and only come up second hand ebay etc. Preston pxr 5000 is one to look at as a friend i know rates it very highly.

Adam apologies for not reading your post through Lol, I gave you the spec for a Barbel float reel. The new shimano aero 4000 reels look superb and if I had the choice thats what I would go for.

Although without the 'made in sweden' solidity, the new abu 706 closed face is a cracking piece of kit. I have both this and the original 506's. I've found the bedding in of line issue to be a thing of the past with the 706

Can't argue with Stradics ! Any 2500/3000 model ! Also check out Shimano Sahara 3000m if you can find one on E-Bay, quality reel and VERY fast retrieve rate !!!
ABU 506's are still great if you can find one ! Local tackle dealer recommends the new ABU 506 MKII Closed Face Match, but not the old 706 ! Shocking Reel ! Gave mine away it was that bad !!!!

Thanks for your input guys. I decided on the new Shimano Aero 4000 match/feeder. It has a great spool size similar to a Mitchell really and I can get my finger in the spool rim just right for trotting. A finger dab bail release a la Mitchell match would make it the perfect reel I think!
