Tripods

Looking into buying a tripod only one I can really find is the korum river pod is there any others I should be looking at.
Thanks in advance

Ryan, it depends how often and in particular, where you are using it that will determine the choice for you. I use one of these:

Parker Angling Aluminium TBR2 Telescopic Barbel Rod Rest Tripod: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

It is lightweight but reasonably sturdy, especially when using it on the banks of rivers where the legs can be pushed into the ground. You can also hang a bag of rocks under it to stabilise it on rocky rivers. I've used it on the Trent, Swale, Nidd and Wharfe in different ways and if you have to walk any distance to your chosen swim, it's not going to weigh you down. Yes some of the plastic parts may have been produced in alternative materials, but for the price it's got more pluses than negatives.

If, however, you are going to be using a tripod for all your fishing. there are bigger and more robust tripods on the market which I'm sure other members will be putting forward.

Ryan, you will find that even the Trafford Angling tripod has it's detractors, as will any other item of tackle you care to mention. Everyone has their opinions and favourites where angling equipment is concerned, and sadly this is sometimes based on very little fact. However, those who have replied to your thread so far have a wealth of experience between them on this issue, so you won't go far wrong listening to them.

Cheers, Dave.

I've had a Korum river pod a couple of seasons, lightweight so I assumed it wouldn't last long especially on the rocky banks that I fish regularly. However, nothing has dropped off yet and the adjustment catches have thus far proved to be more robust than they feel. I'd buy another when this one eventually breaks.

Hi Anthony, just had a look on e-bay, and it looks like they've dropped their price quite a bit. :)

the korum river pod is your best bet it adjusts in every way possible which is great in tight swims.standard tripods take up more space,my fishing buddies swapped the standard tripods for the korum when they seen mine and say it was money well spent and are a lot more versatile

if your using it in the river make sure theres an option of keeping the rod butt out of the river as terminating damage to the rod can occur through osmosis
sea tackle shops are a good place for a highish tripod

shakespeare salt.

Have been using one of these for a while , adapted a aluminium bar to hold two bite alarms , so can river fish or sea fish as required , many beach anglers use these , they have robust adjustable side arms and the main bar can extend to around 7ft so gives lots of options at around £50 -60 new.

I've used an Ian Gold super match for years on the beach and can't fault it really, except that it is on the long side for transporting.
I adapted a extendable German camera tripod for the odd occasion on the rivers which was brought from Lidl and worked a treat on the Wye.
I would agree with the comments reg. the S/ Salt gear, very good value indeed.
I use Century rods off the beach, but brought a couple of S/ Salt ' cheapies' for clambering over rocks and ledges,..a third of the price, but reliable and well put together.;)

I use a fox horizon with the mod for upright fishing. Its great in open swims and if its on gravel. I use the long buzz bar at the bottom and the short at the top so the rods are in effect pointing together. I also use long banksticks, especially now the ground is softer. I prefer the bankstick approach as you dont have to move around the tripod when a fish is on. Never been keen on the korum or tbr2. Look at it this way. If a barbel should bite and the rod goes over can you guarantee the tripod would not move or even collapse under the pressure. With a horizon or the bank sticks i use i know this will not happen. They just look a little flimsy imo..

Have you watched charley farley on youtube. He doesnt use a tripod. The sea ones are strong and sturdy i had a spro one which was excellent. Personally i find sticks better on the Trent but when i cant get a stick in i use my fox horizon. Biggest mistake i see with any setup is pointing the rods straight to the river. Point them slightly downstream. Seen a few rods go in lol...

Yeah I've watched him mate I know a tripod is not a must jus something I want as I'm going to be on the Trent soon decided on the korum one tho any ways thanks.
