After reading the thread about the shimano Ultegra 5500 xtb, I think it's a bit too complicated for my liking and abit out of my budget even though they do seem and look fantastic is there any alternative I could go for that's abit cheaper (£50 - £60) with a rear b/r system is there any reels just as reasonable?

Now't complicated about the baby pits but the quick drag is a bit to quick when you are trying to balance the freespin against the flow, two clicks is to much and one click not enough so i fish them on full drag and hope the fish don't pull me rods in:D joke!!:rolleyes:
 
Hi Wayne the Trent hasnt seen any rain so far this seaon, I find when there is a little water on thats when you find out how good your reels are. I cant comment on the Okuma reel, but the best reels I have seen have to be iether the XTB's or the 8000D and these reels have a proven track record.
I often see the xtb's second hand for around £80, maybe they are just out of budget, but I wouldnt like to see you buying again in the near future.
Dont worry about the drag either as a few sessions it becomes second nature to some.......
 
I agree with the second nature thing as when i switch back to bait runners i always tighten my clutch instead of disengaging the bait runner:rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
Another vote for the Ultegra if you can stretch to it. I find the drag system very simple to use - i think it is an improvement on the original rear lever baitrunner. It also has the cranking power which is imperative on the TT in my opinion.

You can pick up a new one for a bit less than £100 (see Eric's website) but you would have to put up with a rather embarrassing camo bodykit ;)
 
Right that's me Iv gotta turn up with the ultegra thanks lads I go often enough to justify them I should easy get £400 for my full course fishing set up so that will almost buy my new 15ft fox extreme barbel rods and two new 5500 xtb's and with the advise off of you lads if I don't get my first double figure barbel this season I'm chucking lot in so if you pull a fox extreme and an xtb out next season you know who's it is ;);)

I use a pair of Daiwa SS2600's, and have done for years. Served me very well, through lots of abuse up and down the TT.

Never found any need for either a baitrunner, or anything bigger.
 
Would recommend the xtbs, ss2600s, tournaments, and shimano 6000d or 8000d's.

Can't go wrong with any of that lot.
 
Got the xtb's absolute beauties can't wait to get on that bankside and use them they need bedding in ;);)
