Threat to rivers

Not sure Rich,... many people and businesses carry on assuming our water resources are infinite until they have to use standpipes. MSM reports can only help I guess.
Meanwhile Wessex Water seem confident everything will remain hunky dory for the next 25 years according to this report....

Once one of the major southern chalk stream ends up like the Gypsey Race in East Yorkshire, something major might get done about water extraction. Whether what happens applies equally to all rivers is another matter entirely.

Don't get me wrong, the Gypsey Race has always flowed intermittently, but old maps, with sporadic blue lines along its length, would suggest that it has flowed a bit more in the past than it currently does. More than the odd resident of the locale have been rather surprised when it does actually show itself. Plenty are totally unaware of its existence until it floods.
