oh and am not at work as had stomach bug last week and dropped a stone in 6 days and now docs best guess is I have trapped a nerve at base of my back which is giving me serious grief just below my hip and my knee is sore as hell and is actually numb to touch all round it

Sorry lads, i have such a dull life, retired but work as a bailiff on Throop, i can walk to the river and be on the bank in 3 minutes, this makes it very difficult when the river is unfishable, it is then i have to sit and look out of the window.
Brian.

Unfishable bahhhhh chuck on 10oz and half a tin of spam!

3 minutes from the river, doesn't have to go to work - I don't know how you manage to keep a smile on your face Brian. By the way Pig Shoot was a blanker.

You call that dull Brian? I am retired, live ruddy miles from the river...and I don't drive. I go through long periods when I just cannot muster the enthusiasm to go fishing, despite the fact that fishing was the love of my life before I retired. So I spend most of my time looking out of the window. Now THAT is dull :D:D

Cheers, Dave.

I know exactly what you mean Robert...it comes with age :p

Sorry

Cheers, Dave.

Now, this needs sorting out. Dave, you need another fishing challenge, which in all probability means a complete break from the barbel. You could consider trout fishing. Definitely not carp. If you can find a friend with whom you have a rapport and they are into fishing, then that's a big plus. For example, a friend of mine only fished for trout. Not anymore, it's now barbel, pike on the fly, and bonefish in Florida. He now claims that trout fishing is boring! After a little prodding, he's bought himself a top-notch air rifle and after breakfast, does a bit of squirrel shooting in the garden.

You've got to be mobile, get behind the wheel. Loads of people I know in London "self-insure". Any little scrapes they sort out financially themselves. Yes, you can run into problems with "The Law", but my friends assure me that the fines are much lower than insurance and tax. For the ultimate adrenalin buzz, find a new bit of totty. I did, a lovely big blond bird. Unfortunately my wife found out and it soured things somewhat. However, it is not all bad as I now eat proper food like fried eggs, chips, bacon, beans, fried potatoes etc. All that quiche and vegetable type junk stuff has been disposed off. Now, I can go to bed when I want, drink what I want, watch what I want on TV, fish when I want etc. Life really ain't that bad.

I would not mind acting as a consultant, bit like those people on TV who advise on house makeovers, their clients are always delighted and I could do a similar job on lifestyle. I must add that it is always a good idea to have a wife who earns more than you. I was lucky in that respect, as I found suitable work hard to come by whilst my wife earned a tidy sum. When things soured, over the blond totty, and after the divorce, she ended up paying me a monthly allowance. Yes, I agree a little unfair, but then again I don't make the rules. For anyone considering going down this route, get yourself a top rate solicitor, don't worry about the money just so long as the ex-wife is earning more than you, as you will be able to claim it back from her even though some people my have silly scruples about this. Don't worry, those scruples will evaporate when you see the monthly allowance that The Court has made in your favour. Life is too short, take what you can. If you have a conscience, just think of all the good things that you have given her over the years. One last word, if you are in Court hammering out the allowances deal that are due to you, never, never be aggressive. You must be completely "broken" and that you only sought solace because your wife constantly humiliated you. A little sobbing is fine, just don't overdo it though. Lastly, do not attend Court sharply dressed, this gives the wrong impression. Go for down at heal clothes, show an effort that you have tried to respect the Court, but can't afford to turn up in anything too smart. An oversize suit from a charity shop would probably me my pick to demonstrate how much weight that you have lost. Good luck, a better lifestyle awaits those who are prepared to take their opportunities.

Only trouble there is the poor thing has dried up for the first half mile or so of it's existence (500 yds from my front door) Not sure how much water there is around latimer/Chorleywood, nor who now have the fishing rights. The trout fishery at Latimer Park Lakes no longer have the river, and the lakes are syndicate. The only free bit I am aware of is the bit by the park at Rickmansworth, which is only a shadow of it's former self.

Cheers, Dave.

Jim, there are certain big attractions to your proposals, two of which belong to a rather attractive lady of my acquaintance. Sadly, my wife, children and grandchildren outnumber me hopelessly and veto any proposals of a trial sharing scheme. Being a 'child of the sixties', I did rather spoil myself a little in my younger days, S and D and R 'n R an all that, but the memories are too hazy now to sustain me I fear. To be brutally honest, I didn't remember most of them the next day.

Not too sure about the car 'self insurance' bit Jim. Mind you, that would probably be the only option open to me, as no right minded insurance company would take me on.

Seriously though, my current lack of enthusiasm will ease before long. I am contemplating having a go at the roach in my local river (Colne). As you say, changes in direction are required. I did go the air rifle route some months back, but it only gave short lived respite. Despite initial reluctance, I would now cheerfully shoot some of the furry little monsters which have cost me a great deal of money this year, and ruined my new found pastime of bird watching. However, in a garden as small as mine, with neighbours that live so close we can only breath in if they breath out...and a railway at the bottom of the garden...that is NOT an option!

Never mind...I will get there...but not by way of Lilo Lill me thinks :D

Cheers, Dave.

I am amazed at the replies i have received, only wanted to know a thread type and size, which got me thinking..............................
What about a Dear Marge or Agony Aunt post, it seems that we have many excellent qualified candidates.
And to answer Clive, 10ozs and a tin of meat would be fine but that would only be if we could get onto the flooded river bank, and before you say it, i can't cast from my window, it's a bit further than that.
And by the way, i have been busy this week repairing a leak in my shed, and yes it could be something to do with the rising river water.
I have run out of problems.............NEXT.
Brian.
