Last week I fished a favoured stream and managed to catch some decent chub. Barbel were in the swim but they were beaten to my bait by the chevins. I had to stand, hidden by undergrowth, in order to access the feeding area. By dint of standing for several hours straining my left achilles tendon, the next morning I was unable to walk. Extracting the best fish from roots under the near bank has damaged the tendons on my right hand. Subsequently I have been unable to hold a rod. Fishing conditions have been so perfect for barbel that I find myself in a state of total frustration. This glorious morning with the prospect of showers later in the day and an undoubtably rising stream with active bewhiskered ladies on the search for tasty titbits has left me a gibbering. grumpy old man.
I wish all who are able to fish the very tighest of lines. I should be on the Kennet today.........
